SNAPCHAT users can now get hyper-realistic face filters – but only if they have an iPhone X. Apple teased the super smart Lenses at the iPhone X launch last year, but now they've finally gone live. There are three mask-style Lenses to choose from. But they'll only appear in the latest version of the app for you if you've got Apple's £999 iPhone X. That's because the face filters work using Apple's TrueDepth camera. Normal Snapchat filters take a rough guess at what your face looks like based on a 2D image of your mug. But Apple's iPhone X camera can sense depth by mapping a 3D image of your face. That makes it possible to create Snapchat filters that fit your face much better. Apple has announced the results of the first quarter of its 2018 fiscal year. For the period ending December 30, 2017, Apple clocked its overall revenue at $88.3 billion for the quarter, a 13 percent year-over-year increase. This past quarter notably saw the release of the iPhone X, a launch that Apple now says brought in record revenue for a new iPhone lineup and helped it post the biggest quarter in company history. Following that launch, Apple now says that it counts 1.3 million iOS active devices worldwide as of this January. According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, this is a 30 percent increase in active devices in just two years. In the three month period ending December 30, Apple saw the sale of 77.3 million iPhones across all models. While the company didn’t note how those sales break down between different device generations, Apple did say that the iPhone X has been the company’s top-selling iPhone every week since its November 3, 2017 launch. However, users are now discovering that the phone actually has an adverse effect on one mobile game in particular. Pokemon GO players are now beginning to report that the game is significantly harder to play on the iPhone X. In a post on Reddit, one disgruntled player explains that due to the design of the iPhone X screen (it is edge-to-edge and doesn’t have a traditional home button), developer Niantic has changed the way that battles look in the game. Instead of expanding the visible area, it appears that Niantic has simply zoomed in on it instead. This cuts off the left and right areas that are visible when Pokemon GO is played on other devices.
