Everything was Uncharted. You’ll have seen the jokes, no doubt – the ones that pointed out how many games at E3 2012 seemed to be based on an external interpretation of the Naughty Dog design document. That show brought a host of linear games built on tightly scripted spectacle, sacrificing player agency for the whims of a stubborn author. The complaint was aimed at other developers, at an industry in thrall to the cookie cutter, but it stung Naughty Dog by extension as well. Many of those games have since turned out to be nothing like Uncharted. At December’s PlayStation Experience (PSX) event, filmed live in Vegas and streamed around the world, Naughty Dog suggested Uncharted 4 wasn’t, in the E3 2012 pejorative sense of the term, very Uncharted either. Over the course of a day inside the Santa Monica studio, we are shown the proof of it. Within half an hour, game director Bruce Straley has summed it up perfectly. “There’s no one golden path,” he tells us. “It’s not just as simple as … [Read more...] about Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End – the story behind the biggest game of the year

New Predator Prequel Prey Teaser Drops Before August 5 Hulu Release
20th Century Studios has dropped a new teaser trailer for the upcoming movie Prey, a Predator movie sequel continuing the long-running survival-action franchise. The movie comes exclusively to Hulu on August 5. The new clip clocks in at just under 45 seconds, but clearly shows the fifth installment in the franchise will be more in the style of the horror vibes of the 1987 original and now taking cues from Shane Black's 2018 comedy take on the lore. A synopsis reads: "Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, Prey is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries." Netflix Adds New “Two Thumbs Up” Option For Rating Content
Netflix users now have the ability to rate content on its service with a new two-thumbs-up feature. It's the first major shift in user ratings since 2017, when a more binary thumbs up/thumbs down replaced the previous five-star rating. According to Protocol , who was among the first to report on this change in Netflix's interface, the option of an additional thumb won out over the possibility of subscribers gaining the ability to "heart" content to let Netflix know, in the service's own words, "You're a true fan." The company says this has been a highly requested feature. “Members have never had as many great entertainment options as they have right now,” Christine Doig-Cardet, director of product innovation and personalization experiences at Netflix, told The Verge . "Being able to find the shows and movies that you’re going to love is really important. We want to continue to make Netflix the place where it’s easiest to choose something to watch." Work on the feature began a … [Read more...] about Netflix Adds New “Two Thumbs Up” Option For Rating Content
Netflix To Workers: Quit If You Don’t Want To Work On Content You Disagree With
Netflix has updated its culture guidelines to inform prospective workers that they might be asked to work on content they don't agree with or they perceive to be "harmful." If that's upsetting, there are other jobs out there, Netflix said. For the first time since 2017 ( via Insider ), Netflix updated its culture guidelines with a section pertaining to "Artistic Expression." The company says it supports artistic expression of all types and it allows its audience to choose what it wants to watch. As for employees, they might be asked to work on content they might find "harmful," and if that's the case, they might want to look elsewhere for employment. "Not everyone will like--or agree with--everything on our service," Netflix said. "While every title is different, we approach them based on the same set of principles: we support the artistic expression of the creators we choose to work with; we program for a diversity of audiences and tastes; and we let viewers decide what’s … [Read more...] about Netflix To Workers: Quit If You Don’t Want To Work On Content You Disagree With
Disney Dreamlight Valley Is More Than Animal Crossing In Mickey Mouse Ears
When Disney Dreamlight Valley was announced , I found its intersecting parts of Disney, the farm-life sim genre, and a free-to-play model to be exciting. With a fair in-game economy and gameplay that keep genre fans coming back, the Animal Crossing-like could have the potential to become a hit with players of all ages--but that microtransaction question loomed large. After spending an hour with the Gameloft development team and checking out a hands-off demo, I'm heartened to have seen a pay model without uncomfortable caveats, making me more confident Dreamlight Valley will be well populated by fans of the genre and brand alike. On the surface, Dreamlight Valley appears to be your typical farm-life sim--even its name seems determined to recall imagery of Stardew Valley, one of the genre's most beloved games. I arrived to my demo wanting to find out if this other valley could provide a similar mix of relaxing gameplay mechanics such as farming, mining, and socializing. It does … [Read more...] about Disney Dreamlight Valley Is More Than Animal Crossing In Mickey Mouse Ears
