So what can you expect to do in the role? Chances are you'll be managing the media mogul's busy schedule, including TV appearances, events, shopping trips, and crossovers with the wider Kardashian-Jenner clan. When John Krasinski took to the stage after the world premiere of his movie “A Quiet Place” last month at the South by Southwest Film Festival, he seemed startled and surprised not only by the intensity of the audience’s response but also, perhaps, even by the movie itself. “Who made that film and why?” he exhorted the crowd.Nothing on Krasinski’s resume would make him an obvious choice to direct, co-write and co-star in a horror thriller that has audiences screaming with gleeful terror and hiding their eyes with panicked delight. And he might even have agreed with that notion, as he himself hadn’t particularly liked scary movies.“I definitely am a horror fan now. I’m late to the party but I want to stay forever,” Krasinski said in a recent interview. “It’s such an amazing genre storytelling-wise that I’ve been so ignorant to stay away from up until now. In the last few years there have been some of the best … [Read more...] about John Krasinski on defying expectations, hiring Emily Blunt and making big noise with ‘A Quiet Place’
Voice acting is crucially different from other art assets in game dev, either visual or audio, in that there's no such thing as "off the shelf" voices. Every project has its own dialogue, and if a developer wants to add voice to their game, it's an individualized, bespoke project. If you're a solo or small-team game creator, voice acting may seem out of your reach—and your budget—but enthusiast, semi-pro, and freelance voice acting has flourished in much the same way indie game development has. Now, getting great voice acting in your game is often simply a matter of learning how to connect with freelance artists who are within your means. Acclaimed game designer Yuji Naka announced on Twitter this morning that he was joining Square Enix. Naka is best known as the former head of the Sonic Team at Sega. Naka left Sega in 2006 to start his own independent studio, Prope. The studio released Let’s Tap in 2008 for the Wii, in which players tapped a corresponding cardboard box to match the cues on screen. (In an age of Nintendo Labo, Nintendo’s own cardboard-gaming project, Let’s Tap feels ahead of its time.) Prope also developed a few Digimon games, including Digimon Adventure in 2013 for the Playstation Portable and Digimon All-Star Rumble in 2014 for the PlayStation 3. Naka didn’t announce what he’ll be working on at Square Enix, but said his goal was to create an enjoyable game.
