Top Gun: Maverick’s streaming release date reportedly depends on Tom Cruise
Top Gun: Maverick doesn't have a streaming release date just yet, but when the movie will arrive on Paramount Plus reportedly depends on its star, Tom Cruise. "The last I saw with Paramount was that the window is 120 days, but Paramount would like to go back to Tom Cruise and negotiate a shorter window in order to capture some of the home video revenue, whether that's on premium video on demand, whether it's on their streaming service Paramount Plus, yet to be determined," Hollywood insider Matthew Belloni said on his podcast, The Town with Matthew Belloni (opens in new tab) . "I know Paramount would very much like to get this movie onto a streaming service soon. But if it keeps playing in theaters like it's playing, there's really no incentive for Tom Cruise to agree to that, other than money, and he's a big believer in the theatrical ecosystem and he has control over this movie in his deal." Maverick is certainly raking in the big bucks – has now made a total … [Read more...] about Top Gun: Maverick’s streaming release date reportedly depends on Tom Cruise
No Man’s Sky Switch release date set for October
No Man's Sky is releasing on Nintendo Switch on October 7, 2022, Hello Games has announced. The Switch version of No Man's Sky was announced back in February and just last month Hello Games said it was putting the finishing touches on the port. Thankfully, it now seems there were little to no hiccups finalizing its release, as we're now officially only a few months away from launch. In a press release, Hello Games founder Sean Murray spoke about the immense challenge of porting such a large game, with a seemingly endless amount of procedurally generated worlds, onto the five-year old mobile Switch. "No Man's Sky on this tiny portable device feels both completely natural and also totally improbable at the same time," said Murray. "This has been a real moonshot for our small team. No Man's Sky is built around procedural generation, which means the console generates everything you see. This makes it so much harder to bring our game to something like the Switch, but I think … [Read more...] about No Man’s Sky Switch release date set for October
Acclaimed puzzle game studio Zachtronics will release its final game next month
Popular indie developer Zachtronics will release what will be its final new game next month. In an interview with Kotaku (opens in new tab) , the studio's founder Zach Barth said, "We're wrapping things up!" Before the studio closes its doors for good, it has two final projects in the works: a new game that's aptly named Last Call BBS, launching on July 5, and a collection of its various solitaire games, set to release before the end of the year. "After that, the team will disband," says Barth. "We all have different ideas, interests, tolerances for risk, and so on, so we're still figuring out what we want to do next." Rather than a decision that's been forced upon it, this is something that the developer is doing on its own terms, which Barth says "feels pretty good". Barth founded Zachtronics in 2000 and the studio built a reputation for itself with acclaimed puzzle games such as TIS-100 and SpaceChem. While most of Zachtronics' back catalogue consists of … [Read more...] about Acclaimed puzzle game studio Zachtronics will release its final game next month
Halo Master Chief Collection Cosmetic Microtransactions Being Explored By 343
343 Industries has confirmed that it is exploring the idea of adding microtransactions to Halo: The Master Chief Collection. In an update on the Waypoint site, community writer Alex Wakeford explained that 343 will be renaming Season Points as Spartan Points and is looking into adding a new form of microtransactions. "For players who are new to the MCC, or who may not have dedicated much time specifically to unlocking items during the seasonal updates, or are simply completionists looking to catch the last outstanding items they need, we are internally exploring a potential new feature for the future in the form of purchasable Spartan Points," Wakeford wrote on Waypoint . The new system is described as being an "optional, additive alternative" for players and is being designed as a way for people to either skip the grind of obtaining items or be given the option to purchase the ones that they want. The existing method of earning points by leveling up and completing challenges … [Read more...] about Halo Master Chief Collection Cosmetic Microtransactions Being Explored By 343
Blade Runner Enhanced Edition looks like a mess, and the community remaster devs aren’t happy about being replaced
Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition launched this week to a very negative response, and the community developers who brought the game to modern computers for free are unhappy about being replaced. "Over a number of years, I, along with friends, lovingly reverse engineered Westwood's Blade Runner for ScummVM, reviving the game and helping GOG to release the game for sale once again," developer Thomas Fach-Pedersen says on Twitter (opens in new tab) . "For this we have asked for and received nothing but the honor of the work." Nightdive Studios' Enhanced Edition has taken over the GOG listing for Westwood's classic 1997 Blade Runner adventure. The original version through ScummVM is still available as part of the purchase at the same price, but Fach-Pedersen takes issue with being a "mere attachment on somebody else's mediocre paid product." ScummVM is not an emulator, but from a player perspective it functions similarly to one, allowing you to play classic games on modern … [Read more...] about Blade Runner Enhanced Edition looks like a mess, and the community remaster devs aren’t happy about being replaced
Some WoW Fans Are Begging Blizzard To Delay Dragonflight
The release of World of Warcraft's next expansion, Dragonflight, is far closer than most players expected, with Blizzard recently confirming the expansion to be on track for a 2022 release . That was not news many players in the game's community expected to hear. After all, when Blizzard announced Dragonflight back in April , it made sure not to give any kind of release date or window, instead telling players it would arrive when it was ready. "When it's ready" is apparently very soon, as in "before or on December 31, 2022" soon. Players aren't sure what to make of this. On one hand, the community is desperate to move on from the disappointment that was Shadowlands and return to Azeroth proper. On the other hand, given the late announcement of the expansion and the fact that alpha testing for Dragonflight has yet to start on the game's public test realm (but is likely coming very soon), players are concerned a 2022 release date is too soon. As such, a significant part of … [Read more...] about Some WoW Fans Are Begging Blizzard To Delay Dragonflight
WoW Classic is dropping its “no changes” philosophy for Wrath of the Lich King
Blizzard has announced some additional changes coming for Wrath of the Lich King in World of Warcraft Classic, and the community largely seems pleased with what will be different from the original release. As WoW Classic continues to evolve with further expansion packs, Blizzard says in a blog post (opens in new tab) that the studio intends to move from a "#NoChanges" philosophy to a "#SomeChanges" approach, to ensure that the core of the original experience remains, even as the game continues to get new content. But that's not the only change. The devs intend to "nurture and protect social experiences" across the board. That's why the Dungeon Finder has been removed, as previously announced, and the studio is open to further changes to preserve that early social experience. Other changes are intended to ensure that progression and classes remain approachable, and that the player-driven stories about the world itself remain the core of the game. In concrete terms of … [Read more...] about WoW Classic is dropping its “no changes” philosophy for Wrath of the Lich King
Shenmue Creator Yu Suzuki Explains The Giant Flying Swans Of Air Twister
Yu Suzuki, the creator of Shenmue, Space Harrier, and many other games, is releasing his latest, Air Twister, via Apple Arcade on June 24. Ahead of its release, we spent some time with the game and even had the chance to speak with Suzuki through a translator about the dream-like experience wherein you ride giant swans across alien landscapes. Suzuki confirmed some of the game's details--like protagonist Princess Arch’s size and what classic children’s novel served as the game’s main inspiration--and talked about how much he enjoyed one of GameSpot’s top 10 games of 2021 , It Takes Two. I've been playing Air Twister and it is bizarre. Is that how you thought people would react to it? Yu Suzuki: I didn't really know what people would expect. I just made the game. That's normal for me. Air Twister feels a bit like you're playing an interactive dream. Was that the intention? Thank you very much. I appreciate your comment. Yeah, not particularly. I wasn't really thinking that … [Read more...] about Shenmue Creator Yu Suzuki Explains The Giant Flying Swans Of Air Twister

The biggest showcases of E3 2022 have now drawn to a close. And while we've been treated to dozens of pretty cinematic trailers, promising gameplay reveals, remakes and reworkings over the last several days – not least during the Xbox and Bethesda Games event, and Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest – there are plenty of games that, for one reason or another, failed to peak their heads above the development trenches. We've already highlighted the 10 Xbox Series X exclusives that weren't shown during the Xbox Bethesda Games Showcase , but here we take a broader look at the big-hitters and most intriguing projects that we'd have loved to have seen more of, but sadly didn't.
