343 Industries has confirmed that it is exploring the idea of adding microtransactions to Halo: The Master Chief Collection. In an update on the Waypoint site, community writer Alex Wakeford explained that 343 will be renaming Season Points as Spartan Points and is looking into adding a new form of microtransactions. "For players who are new to the MCC, or who may not have dedicated much time specifically to unlocking items during the seasonal updates, or are simply completionists looking to catch the last outstanding items they need, we are internally exploring a potential new feature for the future in the form of purchasable Spartan Points," Wakeford wrote on Waypoint . The new system is described as being an "optional, additive alternative" for players and is being designed as a way for people to either skip the grind of obtaining items or be given the option to purchase the ones that they want. The existing method of earning points by leveling up and completing challenges … [Read more...] about Halo Master Chief Collection Cosmetic Microtransactions Being Explored By 343

Raft’s got its offline mode back, but it “might not work as expected”
Survival game Raft has reinstated its offline mode after a community outcry, but the developers warn it might be a buggy experience. After years in Steam Early Access, Raft got its 1.0 update on June 20. The game rocketed up the Steam charts, and has remained among the platform's most-played games since. While one of the game's key features is its online co-op option, some players were disappointed to find that offline play was quietly removed in the final version. Developer Redbeet Interactive reinstated offline play as of hotfix 1.03 on June 22. "In version 1.0," the developers explain (opens in new tab) , "we blocked players who were not connected to an internet connection from playing. This was due to certain technical issues that appeared when people were playing offline." The devs do not explain exactly what those technical issues are, or if they'll be fixed in future updates. While you can once again enable offline mode, you will get a warning message … [Read more...] about Raft’s got its offline mode back, but it “might not work as expected”

How COVID-19 Is Impacting EA’s Business
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, more people are staying home and playing video games. As such, spending on gaming has grown, and Electronic Arts is among the companies that is benefitting. In a new "fireside chat," EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said the company is expected to announce its biggest-ever Q1, which runs April-June. EA said in May that it expects to make $5.525 billion in revenue and a profit of $978 million for the period, which is a record for Q1, but Jorgensen said that the real numbers will be even bigger than that. The full numbers will be announced during EA's earnings report on July 30, but Jorgensen said today, "What I will tell you is it has been much stronger than we anticipated." However, Jorgensen said EA will make up the differences through new campaigns that push … [Read more...] about How COVID-19 Is Impacting EA’s Business
