It’s been a year since Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire arrived to shake up everything we know in the MMORPG. The introduction of Kralkatorrik and our quest to stop Balthazar from slaying the great beast gave the expansion a real sense of urgency and plenty of emotional moments to go along with it. What else have we had in that time? Well, there were new mounts and elite class specialisations, the bounty system, and the new areas inside the Crystal Desert and the Kingdom of Elona. Not to mention Season 4 of the Living World series, which is now starting to come to a close. In fact, we’ve even been able to play Episode 4 of the season – A Star to Guide Us – and check out its new personal instance Sun’s Refuge. What better way to celebrate a whole year of Path of Fire than holding a giveaway for it? Not the game itself, mind you – we have two copies of the expansion’s soundtrack on vinyl up for grabs. But, please note, that this giveaway is … [Read more...] about Win the Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire soundtrack on vinyl – worth $40!

The endless Endless games will continue in August with new paid expansions for sci-fi 4X strategy game Endless Space 2 and its fantasy cousin Endless Legend, developers Amplitude Studios announced today. Each game’s expansion will add a new faction (the Hissho spacesamurai birdmen; the cute wargolem-building Kapaku) plus new features all factions can enjoy (mahoosive Behemoth-class customisable ships; a lava biome and new events). Continuing to walk hand-in-endless-hand, the Supremacy and Inferno expansions will launch on the same day: next Thursday, August 2nd. Here, come meet the Hissho and Kapaku in new trailers. Returning from the first Endless Space, the Hissho pull that old sci-fi trick of building an entire species around a facet of an old Earth culture. In this case, that’s feudal Japan with samurai, honour, tradition, Bushido, and all that. And fighting. They do like a good fight. Arriving alongside the Hissho in the expansion are the Illo, a minor faction who … [Read more...] about Endless Space 2 and Endless Legend getting new expansions in August
It's launch morning for The Crew 2, and I've logged in to do a final network test. The always-online racing game's predecessor had serious network issues on release, so I want to see if the new game is holding up. It's been stable playing with early access players this week, but would the influx of new people cause problems? So far, all is well (unless you're on Steam.) Players are popping up nearby, rather than halfway across the map as they have done during the sparsely populated early access period. They crawl their Lamborghinis up to my stationary 1993 Porsche and rev in wordless invitation to a drag race. They don't need to ask twice and we roar off up the Pacific coast road out of Malibu. It's a fun moment, but then we just peel off and go our separate ways, because there is hardly anything for us to do together in this game. The Crew was a scrappy but ultimately lovable open-world racing game with unrealised massively multiplayer aspirations. It was made by Lyon studio Ivory … [Read more...] about The Crew 2 review
For a moment, popping out of cover to snipe a demon in the bowels of an Imperial ship, Inquisitor—Martyr feels like a good Warhammer 40,000 game that's bringing new ideas to the action RPG genre. I'm surrounded by half a dozen Imperial Guardsmen laying down laser fire on a swarm of little gremlin-like nurglings. I press tab to switch to a chainsword and shield and charge a Chaos hero. Nearby a Space Marine charges into some Chaos zombies and starts squashing them happily. It's a fleeting few seconds, though. I retreat and try to take cover, which requires you to find a yellow cover blob and hold the space bar. Some pillars look like they should provide cover, but they don't, so there is some searching around as a demon sets me on fire. The laser rifle actually feels pretty good to shoot—it has a sniping shot and burst fire that can suppress enemies—but sword swipes feel weak and sloppy. Movement is slow and cumbersome. I activate a jetpack to do a leap attack, but … [Read more...] about Diablo-like Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor—Martyr needs to polish up its best ideas
Image source: Guild Wars 2 WikiAt some point, every MMO turns into a battle zone of prideful players claiming which game was either the first or the best MMOs to come around. Most of the time, the criteria for a title to land atop the ‘best’ list would be based unfairly on its raid boss scene—or how difficult and enjoyable its endgame content is. For the sake of fanning the flames on the age-old arguments, we’ve rounded up of the finest endgame raid boss experiences of the past two decades. It should be noted that due to the nature of these game’s ever-expanding content, most, if not all of these bosses can no longer be experienced in their original way. This list serves merely as a way to chronicle the time members of the community often cited as a high-point in their game’s lifespan.
