At GDC 2019, Google will host a keynote presentation where it will unveil its vision for “the future of gaming,” which is widely rumored to be a new video game console. While speculation is ongoing, Google has now confirmed some special guests for the event. On Twitter earlier today, the official Google Developers account confirmed that Ubisoft and id Software will be a part of the upcoming event. Amy Hennig, who worked at Uncharted developer Naughty Dog and then at EA, will also be a special guest as well as Crystal Dynamics, the developer of Tomb Raider and Square Enix’s Avengers game. The attendee confirmation follows the announcement that Jade Raymond, who has worked at Ubisoft and EA, has joined Google in a vice presidential role. The Google GDC event is almost here, and it could be full of surprises. The event, which is where Google will unveil its gaming initiatives, will be attended by veteran game developers Amy Hennig and Raph Koster along with developers from Crystal Dynamics. Google announced the attendance of these industry veterans in a tweet earlier today. The guests will be joining the Google GDC event for a Developer Day panel on March 19 at 3 PM PT. Google’s main keynote begins at 10 AM that day where the company will reveal its plans for the future. Speculation points to the full reveal of Google’s Project Stream which saw a public test using Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in October 2018. Other rumors point to a full-blown Google gaming console, but one rumor does not negate the other. We may well see both on March 19. Developer sessions hosted by Google will take place after its big announcement at GDC 2019 next week. Google will host its GDC 2019 keynote on March 19, and it will be followed by panels featuring Ubisoft, id Software, Amy Hennig, Crystal Dynamics, and more. Doom makers id Software will join the Developer Day session at 12:30pm PT, followed by Ubisoft at 2pm. A panel featuring Star Wars Galaxies designer Ralph Koster, developers from Crystal Dynamics, and Amy Hennig will kick off at 3pm PT. Now, together with Google Cloud, we want to give you an update on what we’ve been collaborating on in this blog post. Creating together We knew from the start that in order to achieve everything we wanted to, we’d have to have a great working relationship. In the last month since we announced our alliance, we’ve actually done quite a bit of collaboration. We spent some quality time with our Google friends by inviting them to Unity’s annual Hackweek as one of our special guests. Game industry stalwart Phil Harrison announced today that he is joining Google as a vice president and general manager, working from the company’s headquarters in California. Harrison’s resume includes 15 years as head of Sony’s network of game studios, as well as three years as a senior member of Microsoft’s Xbox team. In recent years, he’s served as an adviser and board member to various companies, including Gaikai and Atari. “Excited to be able to share that today I’ve started a new role as Vice President and GM of Google - and relocating (back) to California,” Harrison tweeted today. He was based in California in the late ‘90s, during his stint with Sony. There’s been no official announcement of his joining from Google’s publicity department, suggesting a high level of secrecy about Harrison’s role at the company.
