GTX 1080 Ti vs RTX 2080: benchmark performance and feature comparison

September 23, 2018 eurogamer Leave a Comment

After years of development, Nvidia's new Turing graphics cards have arrived - RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti. While the RTX 2080 Ti offers a clear performance advantage over the best of the last-gen Pascal cards (plus a ton of new features) the RTX 2080's broadly similar performance to the GTX 1080 Ti makes it a less obvious choice. Given that the top-end GTX 10-series card is cheaper, does it make sense to get the RTX 2080 at all? As usual, the answer is complicated, but this article is intended to give you the information you need to make a decision one way or the other. First of all, we'll take a look at the new features provided by the Turing architecture to see if any of these are potentially game-changers. For example, DLSS - deep learning super-sampling - may provide a significant performance boost in supported titles, while the real-time ray tracing that gives the new RTX cards their name might justify the added premium for a high-end RTX card. There are other considerations too, … [Read more...] about GTX 1080 Ti vs RTX 2080: benchmark performance and feature comparison

Nvidia offers free SSDs with GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1060 graphics cards

July 26, 2018 eurogamer Leave a Comment

Nvidia and select partners are offering free Kingston SSDs alongside purchases of GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1060 graphics cards, effectively knocking around 15 per cent off their purchase price. Right now, it looks like the deals apply to EVGA and MSI models, highlighted on Nvidia's site but fulfilled by UK retailers like Scan and Ebuyer. By our reckoning, The GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1060 are already the best value graphics cards on the market, so throwing in a free SSD makes them even more alluring for anyone building (or upgrading) a rig for 1080p PC gaming. The GTX 1050 Ti models included in this promotion come with a 120GB Kingston A400 SSD, while the GTX 1060 comes with a 240GB Kingston A400 SSD. These aren't the fastest SSDs on the planet, but they're still way faster than mechanical hard drives. That can make a big difference when it comes to reducing game load times and even preventing hitches in games that heavily utilise background streaming. If you haven't yet upgraded to an SSD or … [Read more...] about Nvidia offers free SSDs with GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1060 graphics cards

AMD Radeon RX 580 benchmarks: the Red Team’s 1080p contender

July 7, 2018 eurogamer Leave a Comment

The AMD Radeon RX 580 is one of the best graphics cards for PC gaming, particularly in the mid-range space where it rivals the slightly cheaper GeForce GTX 1060 - which at the time of writing is the most popular GPU on the Steam hardware survey. In theory, the RX 580 should be able to hit 60 frames per second in most games at 1080p, making it a good option for getting console-quality graphics, or better, at double the frame-rate. To see how well theory lives up to reality, we'll show you gaming benchmark results for nine different games, pitting the RX 580 against its closest competitors: the RX 570 and both the 3GB and 6GB variants of the GTX 1060. We'll also compare the RX 580 to its antecedents and descendants, including the Fury X, Vega 56 and Vega 64, at the end of the article. Before we delve into the benchmarks, it's worth noting that so-called 'reference models' aren't available for the RX 570 or RX 580, so there's no standard model to benchmark. Therefore, we've chosen two … [Read more...] about AMD Radeon RX 580 benchmarks: the Red Team’s 1080p contender

As GPU Prices Soar, AMD Launches Impressive New Integrated Graphics Chip

February 13, 2018 robert Leave a Comment

Integrated graphics processors (IGPs) have never really been suited for PC gaming; instead, IGPs offer a convenient way for computers to do video output without stuffing a discrete GPU into a system. However, AMD has flipped the script with the release of the Ryzen 5 2400G and Ryzen 3 2200G, which are variants on the previously released Ryzen CPUs but with its Vega graphics technology packed inside. The result is an all-in-one chip (an APU) that is now the most powerful integrated graphics solution thus far. Both Ryzen APUs launched this week, and in the midst of the price inflation and scarcity of graphics cards due to cryptocurrency mining. The 2400G and 2200G might be a viable solution for those looking to build a new Ryzen-based system but can't snag a decently priced video card just yet. It's an option if you want to hold off until prices return to normal (whenever that may be) and still need a working system. Benchmarks across the internet have shown both chips to perform … [Read more...] about As GPU Prices Soar, AMD Launches Impressive New Integrated Graphics Chip
