The sixth day of Awesome Games Done Quick includes just 10 events, largely because of a huge Final Fantasy 9 run scheduled for late this evening. That and two other games will be played by speedrunners currently ranked No. 1 in the world in these events. But the last full 24 hours for AGDQ 2019 is more about category extensions, strange attempts and, of course, TASBot. TASBot (Tool-Assisted Speedrun Bot) is a machine-learning program that plots the theoretical fastest route through a game — a performance that would be beyond human capability. The good people over at GOG are currently gifting some players with free games from their wishlists. A newsletter was sent round to select GOG customers thanking them for “being a part of GOG.com…[valuing] DRM-free ideas and preserving our gaming heritage”. To show appreciation, GOG has added a game from those players’ wishlists to their library for free.The comments over on this Reddit thread seem to suggest that it’s mostly Telltale games being gifted; a couple of commenters seem to have received Telltale’s episodic Caped Crusader caper Batman: The Enemy Within, while another received Tales of Monkey Island. Some people even say they’ve been gifted multiple Telltale games. H1Z1, which which left Early Access just over a week ago and added a cars-only battle royale mode called Auto Royale has made another sharp turn in its already twisty-turny development path. At 10 am Pacific today, Daybreak's battle royale shooter will be become a free-to-play game. Viewers tuning into Awesome Games Done Quick this week aren’t happy about having to pay to participate in Twitch chat, leading to complaints about the decision and workarounds from other streamers. Games Done Quick, a charity event that marathons speedruns of video games to raise money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, instituted a $5 channel subscription fee in order to participate in chat for this week’s Awesome Games Done Quick event. In light of the frustration some viewers have with the current chat system, Games Done Quick released a statement explaining why it instituted the subscription fee.
