It's hard to believe, but RimWorld has been in early access for over five years - so long, in fact, I'd forgotten it was technically still a work in progress. But this won't be the case for much longer. According to a blog post by developer Ludeon Studios, the space colony sim will soon be released in full. On October 17th, players will be able to download RimWorld 1.0, which brings bugfixes and a new "food restriction system" allowing players to "determine what [their] colonists and prisoners are allowed to eat". I guess that's one way to stop someone pinching all the donuts - if only that worked in the office. The game had apparently been in the "final stretch" of development since November last year, and the full release marks the "close of this chapter of RimWorld". Founder Tynan Sylvester said there are no specific plans in place for RimWorld, but that he's considering "a variety of interesting directions to go with the game". For now, he's busy celebrating - so it sounds like … [Read more...] about After five years of early access, RimWorld finally has a release date
Five year business plan
After 10 youth escaped from Strategic Behavioral Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, on New Year’s Day, the state suspended admissions, issued a $20,000 fine and gave the psychiatric hospital an immediate jeopardy violation for failing to keep the facility secure. The sanctions are among nine immediate jeopardy citations and other serious actions taken in recent years against psychiatric hospitals owned by Strategic Behavioral Health, which plans to build a 72-bed hospital in Middleton, according to public records reviewed by the Wisconsin State Journal.Middleton’s Plan Commission will hold public hearings Tuesday on a conditional-use permit and a zoning amendment for the hospital, to be called Miramont Behavioral Health and planned for 3169 Deming Way. The City Council, which could consider approving the project on April 17, has endorsed the concept of giving $1.2 million in tax incremental financing to Strategic Behavioral Health, a for-profit company based in Memphis, … [Read more...] about Company planning Middleton psychiatric hospital has violations in other states
Every year before E3, we talk about the games we expect to see, along with the ones that we hope we’ll get to take another look at. These include the obvious ones, like big games announced at the previous year’s conference. But they’re also the hypothetical projects, the titles that we’ve neither seen nor heard from in years — perhaps since they were first announced. Some games have gone quiet much longer than others, though. We’ve gathered up some of the most notable “missing in action” games that we'd love to see make a grand reappearance at this year’s big show. Below, we’ll offer an update on each game, plus our assessment of the likelihood of the project resurfacing at E3 2017 (on a scale of 1 to 10). Follow along and reminisce about some of the industry’s most elusive games. (A quick note: We weighed in on many of these titles last year. In those cases, we’ve generally lifted the original text, with some … [Read more...] about Will these 12 games miss E3 this year?
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy blew up when it hit store shelves last year and revitalized the franchise in ways that many didn’t expect. To capitalize on that success, it seems like Activision might be bringing the N. Sane Trilogy to new platforms later this year. The journey to get to this information is a bit odd but stick with me here. In the spring 2018 issue of a European magazine called Licensing Source Book Europe, a licensing manager named Max Arguile from a company called GB Eye outright claims that Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will be coming to both Switch and PC. GB Eye is in the business of selling merchandise and works closely alongside Activision in the sale of products related to their properties. When talking about what people should look forward to in 2018, Arguile says that Crash Bandicoot is the property that you’ll want to keep an eye on. He says the following: “The new game was a huge success at retail … [Read more...] about Report: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is Coming to PC and Switch Later this Year
Joakim 'Konjak' Sandberg is not very health-conscious. For the past seven years, he's been developing Iconoclasts full-time completely on his own. It's been a heady mix of design, delays and, occasionally, depression, but Sandberg's masterwork will finally release on Tuesday, January 23. When I sit down to talk with him, he says he'll try to remember to take weekends off next time, and maybe he could stand to plan things out a little more. But looking back, he's proud of how far he's come on his own. We first played Iconoclasts in 2013, two years before it hit Steam Greenlight bearing an optimistic 2016 release date. But Sandberg started working on it in earnest in 2010, and the original idea for it came three years earlier. With art inspired by Monster World 4—an old Mega Drive platformer which was re-released in 2007—and gameplay inspired by Metroid Fusion, it was the biggest idea Sandberg had ever taken on. Compared to his previous projects and experiments, Iconoclasts … [Read more...] about The 10-year making of Iconoclasts
