Few MMORPGs last as long as Final Fantasy XI, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in May. 20 years of active service is a monumental achievement for any online game, but especially one built upon the hardcore design of pre-World of Warcraft MMOs that remains strictly subscription-based. And yet, Final Fantasy XI shows no signs of stopping any time soon, even as Square Enix's other MMO, the award-winning Final Fantasy XIV, continues to rise in popularity. In fact, Final Fantasy XI's player base has grown in the last few years, and until recently it was Square Enix's most-profitable Final Fantasy game (a title Final Fantasy XIV now holds as of 2021 ). In the months leading up to the 20th anniversary celebration, Final Fantasy XI even received all-new gameplay systems like the new Master Levels for post-game players, and the ongoing "Voracious Resurgence" questline, which is the first new story content the game has seen in years. FromSoftware has a new game in its “final stages”
With Elden Ring still less than a year old, FromSoftware already has a new game in its "final stages." That's according to FromSoftware president and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki, who discussed the studio's pipeline in a new interview with Japanese site 4Gamer (opens in new tab) . The interviewer notes that Elden Ring was developed in parallel with another unannounced project, and Miyazaki confirms that the development of this mystery game is now "in the final stages" (per a machine translation of the Japanese quotes). Of course, even the final stages of game development can be quite time-consuming, so it's unclear when this mystery game will arrive, nor do we know what exactly it is. That said, persistent rumors and leaks, including plenty of screenshots, indicate FromSoftware is not only making a new Armored Core game but is pretty far along with it, making it the prime suspect for this mystery slot. However, there's every chance FromSoftware has … [Read more...] about FromSoftware has a new game in its “final stages”
Elden Ring will get more updates even as Miyazaki moves onto a new game
Elden Ring will receive more updates, even as its chief creator and game director moves on to other projects. Japanese publication 4Gamer (opens in new tab) has published their extensive interview with FromSoftware president and Elden Ring game director Hidetaka Miyazaki. In the interview, Miyazaki confirms that Elden Ring would continue to receive updates, as it has done since launch earlier this year in February. When asked what would happen concerning Elden Ring going forward, Miyazaki answered that "updates to Elden Ring will continue to be made." That's pretty clear confirmation that we could be in for more updates, although what these updates could potentially contain isn't clear right now. It's worth noting we've seen the likes of both simple balance adjustments and brand new questlines added to Elden Ring via post-launch updates. It's interesting to note that Elden Ring's development continues while Miyazaki moves onto other projects. Elsewhere in the … [Read more...] about Elden Ring will get more updates even as Miyazaki moves onto a new game
Hidetaka Miyazaki wants to make “more abstract fantasy” as if Elden Ring wasn’t abstract enough
Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki has said he wants to make "more abstract fantasy" in the future, with a lot of the ideas he currently has not fitting in with FromSoftware’s current games line-up. In an interview with Japanese outlet 4Gamer (opens in new tab) , (and highlighted by Twitter user @Nibellion (opens in new tab) ) Miyazaki was asked about his future plans following the success of Elden Ring and responded with the news that he’d like to work on something he refers to as "abstract fantasy." In the same interview, Miyazaki explained that he has come up with a lot of images and ideas for a future project but they don’t fit in with FromSoftware’s previous titles. This is just one of the interesting revelations that have come from Miyazaki’s 4Gamer interview. Probably one of the most exciting parts of the interview was when the FromSoftware creative director revealed that the studio has a new game in development and that it’s in its "final stages" . … [Read more...] about Hidetaka Miyazaki wants to make “more abstract fantasy” as if Elden Ring wasn’t abstract enough
Steam Summer Sale 2022 is live with savings on Neon White, V Rising, and more
The Steam Summer Sale 2022 is live with a ton of discounts on new games for 2022 as well as some you might've missed in years past. The list of games on discount includes some that just recently launched to near universal acclaim, like the heart-pounding game of many genres, Neon White, and the retro brawler Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. Two very different games for different crowds, but both have been very well received and both are on discount right now on Steam. There are also some games on sale that might've slipped past your radar, whether that's due to Elden Ring's gluttonous shadow or an out-of-control backlog (yeah, sorry about that). For example, Ghostwire Tokyo might not have been an instant buy at the full $60-70, but we found a lot to love in its spooky, Yokai-filled vision of modern Tokyo and its surprisingly tragic side quests . At half price for Steam's Summer sale, it's absolutely worth checking out. As we said at the start, the … [Read more...] about Steam Summer Sale 2022 is live with savings on Neon White, V Rising, and more
CoD: Vanguard Zombies Shi No Numa Side Easter Egg Guide
The swampland of Shi No Numa has returned to Call of Duty Zombies with Vanguard 's Season 4 update. Treyarch's enhanced version of Shi No Numa introduces a brand-new main storyline quest , and the map also returns with both old and new side Easter eggs to uncover. Here we walk you through completing Shi No Numa's side Easter eggs. Telephone "The One" musical Easter egg Returning along with Shi No Numa's classic Wonder Weapon is the map's telephone music Easter egg. You'll want to head to the Comm Room hut on the northeast portion of the map. You can activate music by interacting three times with the black telephone on the desk inside the building. The tune will be mostly familiar for returning fans, but this time the song playing will be an instrumental version of "The One" from the original Shi No Numa map. Samantha's Song Easter egg Originally introduced in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's remastered version of Shi No Numa, "Samantha’s Lullaby" Easter egg song can be … [Read more...] about CoD: Vanguard Zombies Shi No Numa Side Easter Egg Guide
Call Of Duty Season 4 Revives Zombies With A Rich Enhancement Of Shi No Numa
Prior to Call of Duty Season 4, Vanguard 's Zombies mode was struggling to find its footing with a combination of new features and the switch to objective-style gameplay. The launch of Der Anfang stripped Zombies down to a very barebones experience , and the later addition of the Terra Maledicta map was only slightly better, leaving the mode still feeling like a hollow snoozefest. Not only was it no longer traditional survival waves, but it was devoid of all the bells and whistles that made Zombies special. However, Season 4's map shows the potential that Vanguard Zombies has when combining some of the game's features with a classic round-based map. Shi No Numa was originally DLC for 2008's Call of Duty: World at War, the game that first introduced the mode. The map was released during a much simpler time for Zombies, before the arrival of elaborate Easter egg quests, Artifact abilities, or even custom weapon loadouts. And while I still love the original map, it's a lot of fun to … [Read more...] about Call Of Duty Season 4 Revives Zombies With A Rich Enhancement Of Shi No Numa
Pokémon Go developer Niantic says its “becoming better” at spotting cheaters
Pokémon Go cheaters beware: Niantic has outlined new measures to identify and eradicate cheaters. In a new blog post (opens in new tab) , Pokémon Go (opens in new tab) developer Niantic assured players that it understood "how cheating behaviors" affected them and while its efforts were initially "focused primarily on sharing a broad overview" on unfair gaming practices, the team believes it's "becoming better" at identifying, and removing, cheaters. "Our last post was focused primarily on sharing a broad overview of the actions we had taken to punish accounts we found to be cheating in multiple Niantic games," the blog post said (thanks, NME (opens in new tab) ). "Since then, we’ve invested in becoming better at observing cheating behaviors, and can now more reliably pinpoint these activities with higher speed and accuracy, preventing legitimate players from being punished incorrectly. "As a result, we will be ramping up enforcement against these … [Read more...] about Pokémon Go developer Niantic says its “becoming better” at spotting cheaters
