I've been messing around with raycast collisions and slopes, but am having an issue when trying to get my collider to stay grounded and rotate to the angle of a slope. Everything works when I cast a ray from the exact center of my collider, but things mess up when I try to cast rays from another point along the horizontal center of the collider. For example, let's say my character's position is (0,0), and the "center" ray has an origin at (0,0). This gives me the behavior I want, but if I try to cast a ray from (-0.5, 0) my character is no longer flush with the ground even though the center.y point is the same. Oddly enough, this discrepancy only manifests when the character is on a slope; if it's on a flat surface the behavior of both origin points is the same. Here's the correct behavior using the center ray: Here's a similar ray which is supposedly being cast from the center.y, but with incorrect behavior: ...but that same ray works fine on a flat surface: Even though Unity's … [Read more...] about Why does my collider rotate correctly on a slope only when a ray is cast directly from its center?

Starlink: Battle for Atlas, out today, is a new toys-to-life game from Ubisoft. The concept — modular toy starships that can be physically reconfigured in the heat of battle — makes it sound like a lot of fun. But rather than leveraging the tech for interesting gameplay opportunities, the developers have chosen instead to set a kind of trap for consumers. Turns out that you don’t need the expensive physical toys to play the game at all. In fact, skipping that aspect of the game makes it a cheaper experience by far. In Starlink, players take on the role of a pilot under the command of Victor St. Grand. After the discovery of an alien species, St. Grand takes that rogues gallery of pilots on a galaxy-spanning quest of discovery. But a mid-flight disaster disables the expedition’s mothership, scattering its pilots around an alien star system. In order to put their ship back together, they’ll need to build up support within that star system by helping its … [Read more...] about Starlink: Battle for Atlas is a new toys-to-life game, but you don’t really need the toys
Late last week, Steam.tv popped into existence and then quickly popped out, but not before the internet noticed that Valve had silently launched a new streaming website—cuing speculation that it plans to take on Twitch. Today, Valve has properly launched Steam.tv.If you head to Steam.tv now, you'll find a live broadcast of the 2018 Dota 2 International, and some nice, simple features. You can scrub through the stream like you can during YouTube livestreams, and even better, team fights are marked on the timeline so you can jump to the highlights. You can also log in with your Steam account and either join the main chat, or create group chats with folks from your Steam friends list.Watching pro Dota 2 is, of course, not where Valve plans to stop with Steam.tv and in-client broadcasting. "This Dota 2 centered update to Steam Broadcasting currently includes some custom elements to support The International," reads Valve's blog post. "After the tournament we plan to extend Watch … [Read more...] about Valve’s new streaming platform, Steam.tv, is officially live now
Today Arc System Works released the first screenshots and artwork of Tantei Jinguji Saburo: Prism of Eyes, the latest chapter of the series known in the west as Jake Hunter Detective Story. We get to see footage, screenshots, and illustrations related to two of the cases that will be included in the series’ current generation debut, which will be released in Japan by Arc System Works for PS4 and Nintendo Switch on August 9th, 2018. Interestingly, that’s not all the Tantei Jinguji Saburo news we get today. In the same press release, Arc System Works teased “Daedalus: The Awakening of Golden Jazz.” At the moment literally, the only things known is the teaser website, the logo, the fact that the game is a “detective story,” and that it appears to be a sequel depicting Saburo Jinguji’s youth. Platforms and release window are unknown. In the meanwhile, you can check out the new trailer of Tantei Jinguji Saburo: Prism of … [Read more...] about Jake Hunter Detective Story: Prism of Eyes Gets New Trailer and Screenshots; Another New Game Teased
Nintendo has announced that Goby Arena - the brand-new, basketball-themed Splatoon 2 map that it revealed last month - will arrive on Switch tomorrow. There's not much more to add in the way of official details but, judging by the screenshots released so far, Goby Arena is a relatively open stage, with a complex arrangement of multi-tiered platforms built around the map's perimeter - all focussed in on an exposed central basketball court. There are hoops! Goby Arena and the Dark Tetra Dualies get added to #Splatoon2 tomorrow morning! Perfect excuse for some weekend splatting… pic.twitter.com/IJNMrvRQuf— Nintendo of Europe (@NintendoEurope) March 1, 2018 Goby Arena brings the number of entirely new competitive multiplayer maps in Splatoon 2 up to 12. The remaining six, of course, consist of fan-favourites from the original Splatoon. That's not quite the end of the imminent Splatoon 2 freebies, however. Tomorrow also introduces a new weapon variant in the form of … [Read more...] about Splatoon 2’s new basketball-themed Goby Arena stage is heading to Switch tomorrow
