Playground Games' co-founder and lead developer Gavin Raeburn has exited the studio. As spotted by Windows Central , Gavin Raeburn, who helped co-found Playground Games over a decade ago in 2009, has departed the studio. Raeburn is replaced as studio head by Trevor Williams, who was one of the original co-founders of the developer alongside Raeburn in 2009. You might now associate Playground Games with the prolific Forza series on Xbox consoles and PC, and that makes sense given Raeburn's background. The veteran developer spent time pioneering the likes of the Dirt and Grid racing game franchises before departing Codemasters to establish Playground. Microsoft confirmed Raeburn's departure, and Williams' promotion to studio head, in a statement to Windows Central earlier today. "After 12 years working on five award-winning Forza Horizon games, Gavin Raeburn is leaving Playground Games as Studio Director," the statement read. "Co-founder Trevor Williams will transition … [Read more...] about Forza and Fable 4 studio co-founder departs after 13 years
Playground Games co-founder and studio director Gavin Raeburn is leaving the company, following the successful launch of Forza Horizon 5 in November. General manager and co-founder Trevor Williams will take over. Microsoft executive Alan Hartman told WindowsCentral of the change, "After 12 years working on five award-winning Forza Horizon games, Gavin Raeburn is leaving Playground Games as Studio Director. A founding member of Playground Games, we thank Gav for his leadership and contributions to the Forza franchise and wish him all the best." Hartman went on to say that Playground Games will focus on delivering more updates to Forza Horizon 5 and also developing its new Fable game, which we haven't seen much of. Raeburn worked at Codemasters for 24 years before starting Playground Games in 2009, where he's been for the past 12 years. There is no word yet on where Raeburn will land next after Playground, but keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest. Playground … [Read more...] about Co-Founder And Studio Director At Forza And Fable Studio Playground Games Leaves The Company
Playground Games co-founder and studio director Gavin Raeburn has left the company after 12 years. Microsoft shared the news in a brief statement today, first reported by Windows Central . It's unclear where Raeburn is headed next. Raeburn leaves a company he co-founded back in 2009 and helped grow into one of Microsoft's most important studios - home to the hugely-successful Forza Horizon series and, at some point, the next iteration of Fable. A veteran of the video games industry, Raeburn served 24 years at Codemasters, beginning in the age of the Commodore 64. It was there he worked on Dirt, Grid and F1, before co-founding Playground. At Playground, Raeburn and his co-founders Trevor Williams and Ralph Fulton grew the Forza Horizon offshoot into Xbox's biggest and best racing franchise. Its success has eclipsed that of the original Forza Motorsport, and helped win Playground the job of rebooting Fable. But while Forza Horizon 5, released to acclaim last year, is off to … [Read more...] about Playground Games co-founder departs
Very good adventure game Lair of the Clockwork God is getting a fancypants, Limited Run, physical release on Switch and PS4 . I'm delighted because I've got a soft spot for Lair of the Clockwork God . I reviewed it on PC in 2020 and loved it. It's an adventure game and sometimes a platform game about two characters, Dan and Ben. And they bicker, endlessly. One represents point-and-clicks, and the other, platformers. And they don't always get along. It's relentlessly funny which, I know, is a confrontational thing to say because you're all like, "yeah but I bet you can't make me laugh". But it will. I promise. And I'm delighted because a boxed release really fits with it thematically. Adventure games are retro. They come from a time of big cardboard boxes and chunky manuals. And so, Limited Run has put it in a big chunky cardboard box and stuffed it with art and posters and soundtracks, and a Grail Diary-style journal covering events before, during and after the game, which … [Read more...] about Superb adventure game Lair of the Clockwork God getting a fancypants Limited Run release
The Lord of the Rings TV show is inching ever closer to our screens. The series premieres later in 2022 on Amazon and looks set be their biggest series to date. Although we still have some time to wait, there's a whole lot we already know about the new TV show that needs unpacking, including plot and cast details, as well as a first look image. The new series, we should note, is not actually about the events of the Lord of the Rings books. Although the show has a working title linked to J.R.R. Tolkien's books, the series will take place thousands of years before the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Essentially: don't go expecting to see too many familiar faces (though one or two may still crop up, just a few years younger...). That also opens the series up to exploring some very exciting fertile ground from Tolkien's compendium of works. The Lord of the Rings TV show looks set, then, to be one of the most exciting series coming in 2022 – keep reading to find out everything we know so … [Read more...] about Lord of the Rings TV show: release date, cast, and more about the Amazon series
