Hi! Apologies for the huge gap in blog posts. I have been busy but I have news to relate! Last month, on August 10, 2018, Peter Locharernkul, Asha Veeraswamy, and I were at the AT&T Entertainment Hackathon in NYC and our offering, Shared AR Gaming Experience took 2nd Place in the category of Best Entertainment App Overall. Shared AR Gaming Experience While the demo focused on transforming the board game, Chutes and Ladders, into a 3D experience, this augmented reality phone app is envisioned for use with any board game. Through the use of a multiplayer lobby, the 3D augmented reality game can be played with anybody in the world. Asha's Donkey Kong version of Chutes and Ladders showed how easily embellishments in the form of custom animations and art could be added for seasonal holidays or rebranding for advertising purposes, as is the popular thing nowadays. (For instance, check out the Lord of the Rings Monopoly game.) The … [Read more...] about Shared AR Gaming Experience at NYC Media Lab!
During the PC Gamer Weekender 2018 event in London, Biomutant developer Stefan Ljungqvist was interviewed and discussed the game’s character customization. Prior to the interview, a new trailer was shown that began with the raccoon-like main character meditating before performing various kung-fu moves. The trailer definitely fits Experiment 101’s description that Biomutant, which debuted at Gamescom 2017, is like a “post-apocalyptic kung fu fable.” After the trailer, Ljungqvist showed off the character customization. Notably, the core stats are of typical RPG variety: Strength, Vitality, Charisma, Intellect, Agility, and Luck. However, Biomutant takes a unique spin on these stats, as they vary based on the main character’s appearance. For example, as the developer noted, a big head increases the character’s intellect, which improves various psionic abilities. These stats appear on the right side of the screen, and they change as the main … [Read more...] about Biomutant Developer Shows Character Customization

For those who have a hard time dealing with DRM-ed games, we have some great news. Biomutant and Darksiders 3 will be published on GOG without any DRM restrictions. DRM is often linked to negative performance impacts so it is nice to know that a DRM free version is going to be available. However, that also means that Biomutant and Darksiders 3 could be pirated without any significant hurdles. But it is also a fact that gamers support good games and prefer buying them instead of pirating. The Witcher 3 is a perfect example of how gamers supported by buying millions of copies of this DRM free title. There isn’t much known about the release plans for the games but it is safe to say that they will arrive on GOG and Steam at the same time. Biomutant is under development at Experiment 101, a studio that was recently acquired by THQ Nordic. Meanwhile, Darksiders 3 is being made by THQ Nordic as well but according to the company, they are not planning big marketing push for them. It is a … [Read more...] about Biomutant and Darksiders 3 Will Be DRM-Free on GOG
Bright lights. Memories flash. Who is this? When is this? Who am I? Nothing is certain. As the daze clears, ahead of you stands the Demon King. People are screaming something… “Flash”? Is that my name? “Use your special ability! Why are you just standing there?! Is it the Fog?” What is happening? Sounds confusing, and it is meant to be! Nippon Ichi Software’s The Longest Five Minutes brings you in quick to a story that has already happened. Building off the back of the “amnesia” plot device so heavily inserted into JRPG’s and other Easter titles, The Longest Five Minutes explores a new way of story-telling: the game plays out almost entirely through flashbacks. The result is a satisfying entry-level RPG that adds enough nuance for dedicated fans of the genre to dive into. The memories themselves tell the tale of Flash, the royal-designated Hero of Souvenir, who embarks on a journey to deliver a message with the … [Read more...] about The Longest Five Minutes Review — Role Playing Games 101
