The next Hearthstone expansion is called Rise of Shadows and will be released on Tuesday 9th April. As with every other April expansion, this one’s quite a big deal for Hearthstone. When the first card set of 2019 arrives, all three expansions from 2017 will vanish from the Standard format. That means every card from Journey to Un’Goro, Knights of the Frozen Throne and Kobolds & Catacombs will be confined to Wild, where anything goes. As a result we’re expecting a pretty meaty shake-up for the Hearthstone meta, as old favourites fall by the wayside and the developers gain a fresh slate on which to redesign the shape of the game for the next 12 months to come. Beyond the general jiggling of the meta though, what else should you expect from Rise of Shadows? In this guide we’ve gathered together all of the information that’s been confirmed so far, so that you can get up to speed . Theme The theme for Rise of Shadows is a pretty clear-cut good versus evil … [Read more...] about Hearthstone Rise of Shadows guide: theme, cards and new content in the latest expansion
Expansion hearthstone 2017
It's almost frightening when Ben Brode laughs. It is a subterranean, multi-decibel, overpowering noise. A sharp inhale followed by a barrage of cackles that demolishes any empty space between freshly-minted acquaintances. You feel the bass in your chest. The coffee mugs on the table tremble like a T. Rex is stomping through the jungle canopy. How the hell did this man, this ridiculous, gigantic man, choose a children's card game to make his career? He should be leading troops through the breach, or teaching trembling grade-schoolers how to snare a rabbit. He should be on-stage with Outkast, or rather, Outkast should be onstage with him. It's an early Sunday morning in Amsterdam, the fourth and final day of the Hearthstone World Championship, and I'm nursing a grainy hangover with a blend of buffet-grade breakfast meats. Across from me is The Brode. Immaculate, untouched, in one of his perfectly ironed flannel shirts and a springy plume of caramel hair that makes him look part mad … [Read more...] about The unstoppable rise of Hearthstone’s Ben Brode
There were a plethora of announcements that came from Blizzard’s annual BlizzCon convention today, including a new playable hero for Overwatch and an official vanilla server in World of Warcraft. It’s easy to get lost in the wave of news, so we’ve put together a list of the biggest reveals to catch you up to speed. Meet Moira The most exciting announcement came out of Blizzard’s Overwatch segment. Moira is Overwatch’s 26th playable character. Described as a geneticist who works for Talon, Moira has a history with Reaper’s Blackwatch organization. Moira possesses the ability to inflict an enormous amount of damage on her enemies, according to Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan, and can also heal her teammates. She also appears to have spellcasting abilities. Moira is the fifth post-release character to be added to Overwatch following Ana, Sombra, Orisa and Doomfist. She will be released on Overwatch’s public test region on PC before … [Read more...] about BlizzCon 2017: the six biggest announcements
Don't get us wrong, Blizzcon 2017 had some amazing surprises for almost every Blizzard game. Overwatch got a new map and a new hero. World of Warcraft answered our questions about what's going on with those legacy servers. Hearthstone got a new expansion. Heroes of the Storm got new heroes. But, there were still a few things missing. The most obvious absence was one we knew going into the show: no big Diablo news. Both Diablo II Remastered and the unconfirmed (but inevitable) Diablo 4 were no-shows at this year's Blizzcon. But the other things we wished we'd seen were a little more subtle. In the video above, Erick Tay and I discuss a few of those things we were hoping to see at Blizzcon that didn't make an appearance, including a Blizzard animated movie and Warcraft III remastered. If you missed any of the announcements that did actually happen at the show, you can catch up with the biggest news and trailers from Blizzcon right here. But is there anything you wish that Blizzard had … [Read more...] about What Was Missing From Blizzcon 2017?
Hearthstone’s latest expansion, Kobolds & Catacombs, landed late last week, and if you’ve tried to get a hold of me in that time, I apologize. I’ve been completely preoccupied running Dungeon Run after Dungeon Run. For those unaware, Dungeon Run is the free singleplayer mode from the set which combines some of the best parts of Arena with classic dungeon crawlers. It’s a blast and I highly recommend it. We’ll have more about that later this week. Today I want to talk about the decks already shaking up Standard. I’ve picked some of the coolest and most unique decks that I’ve seen for each class, focusing on a mixture of fun and potency. Some of them only include a few new cards while others are brand new archetypes, but they all have something interesting going on. Kolento’s Big Ramp Druid greedy sprite This innocuous 3/1 is the next in a long line of minions that helps Druid do what Druid does best: cheat out Mana … [Read more...] about The best Hearthstone Kobolds & Catacombs decks to try so far
