Epic Games has gained the services of the Star Wars Rogue Squadron director, Julian Eggebrecht. Eggebrecht co-founded Factor 5 Inc., the studio behind Rogue Squadron. The move is a return to popular game development for Eggebrecht, who has been had a diverse career working in online technology. Eggebrecht’s LinkedIn reflects that the job change took place last month (January 2019) and lists his role as “Director, Online Technology at Epic Games.” Eggebrecht’s recent career experience has seen him working outside of games as a vice president at Disney-owned streaming service Hulu. The developer also worked with Factor 5 Inc. colleagues to found social gaming company TouchFactor and video service SmoothVOD. Epic Games responded to allegations from fans and players that a recent winner in the publisher’s weekly Fortnite Summer Skirmish tournament cheated to win a total of $130,000. Viewers on Reddit accused player iDroPz_BoDiEs of using a keyboard and mouse configuration while playing on PlayStation 4. People not only suggested the setup would give iDroPz_BoDiEs an advantage over other players, but argued it was just sign that pointed to “collusion and corruption in his win,” according to a top Reddit post. The accusations led iDroPz_BoDiEs to replay some of his streams, which viewers pored over. There are few arenas where NBA star and former Indiana Pacers captain Paul George isn’t the person everyone wants to flock around. Epic Games’ Fortnite Pro-Am tournament is one of those rare places. George, who tells Polygon it felt “amazing to be competing” in the tournament, wasn’t the main draw. Neither were hip-hop artists Lil Yachty or Vince Staples. Even actors like Joel McHale and John Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) are second-class.
