Final Fantasy XI At 20: Devs On Coexisting With XIV, Classic Servers, And Its Lasting Influence

June 24, 2022 by www.gamespot.com

Few MMORPGs last as long as Final Fantasy XI, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in May. 20 years of active service is a monumental achievement for any online game, but especially one built upon the hardcore design of pre-World of Warcraft MMOs that remains strictly subscription-based. And yet, Final Fantasy XI shows no signs of stopping any time soon, even as Square Enix's other MMO, the award-winning Final Fantasy XIV, continues to rise in popularity. In fact, Final Fantasy XI's player base has grown in the last few years, and until recently it was Square Enix's most-profitable Final Fantasy game (a title Final Fantasy XIV now holds as of 2021 ). In the months leading up to the 20th anniversary celebration, Final Fantasy XI even received all-new gameplay systems like the new Master Levels for post-game players, and the ongoing "Voracious Resurgence" questline, which is the first new story content the game has seen in years. To get more insight into Final Fantasy XI's … [Read more...] about Final Fantasy XI At 20: Devs On Coexisting With XIV, Classic Servers, And Its Lasting Influence

Sonic Origins Developer “Very Unhappy” About The Remastered Game’s Current State

June 24, 2022 by www.gamespot.com

One of Sonic Origins' developers expressed frustration with Sega, alleging that Sega "made major modifications to the build" Headcannon submitted--resulting in "wild bugs." Simon Thomley from Headcannon took to Twitter to communicate the dev team's unhappiness with the game's final version. Thomley said they acknowledge the build given to Sega wasn't perfect, but stated "what is in Origins is also not what we turned in." Thomley went on to explain the development situation, saying it was a major time crunch and that the studio was not allowed to make major fixes. "We asked to do major fixes near submission, but weren't allowed due to submission and approval rules," Thomley wrote. "We asked about delays early and repeatedly but were told they weren't possible." This is frustrating. I won't lie and say that there weren't issues in what we gave to Sega, but what is in Origins is also not what we turned in. Integration introduced some wild bugs that conventional logic would … [Read more...] about Sonic Origins Developer “Very Unhappy” About The Remastered Game’s Current State

Call Of Duty Season 4 Revives Zombies With A Rich Enhancement Of Shi No Numa

June 24, 2022 by www.gamespot.com

Prior to Call of Duty Season 4, Vanguard 's Zombies mode was struggling to find its footing with a combination of new features and the switch to objective-style gameplay. The launch of Der Anfang stripped Zombies down to a very barebones experience , and the later addition of the Terra Maledicta map was only slightly better, leaving the mode still feeling like a hollow snoozefest. Not only was it no longer traditional survival waves, but it was devoid of all the bells and whistles that made Zombies special. However, Season 4's map shows the potential that Vanguard Zombies has when combining some of the game's features with a classic round-based map. Shi No Numa was originally DLC for 2008's Call of Duty: World at War, the game that first introduced the mode. The map was released during a much simpler time for Zombies, before the arrival of elaborate Easter egg quests, Artifact abilities, or even custom weapon loadouts. And while I still love the original map, it's a lot of fun to … [Read more...] about Call Of Duty Season 4 Revives Zombies With A Rich Enhancement Of Shi No Numa

The Resident Evil PS5 upgrades have a secret weapon – and it’s got nothing to do with Umbrella

June 22, 2022 by www.gamesradar.com

The Resident Evil 2 remake PS5 upgrade, and its Resident Evil 3 counterpart, are the extension of an ongoing trend. As most recently illustrated by The Last of Us: Part 1 – the fully-fledged Last of Us remake PS5 players are set to welcome later this year – nostalgia in the horror genre is popular. So popular, in fact, that you might have spied me heralding the current influx of throwback scare 'em ups as the golden age of horror remakes . Which is hardly a controversial take. Resident Evil 4 is being remade from the ground up. As is Dead Space, Layers of Fear, and System Shock. There's even rumors of Silent Hill 2 being redone some 21 years since its first arrival. And, of course, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 have already been brought in line with modern standards over the last few years. Better still, the RE2 and RE3 remakes of 2019 and 2020 have now been given a further makeover, with scaled-up versions now available on PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles. … [Read more...] about The Resident Evil PS5 upgrades have a secret weapon – and it’s got nothing to do with Umbrella
