Home • Death of a gamepad Craig Pearson Contributor 12th December 2019 / 9:00AM Right now, there’s a room in Buffalo Grove, Illinois that’s as quiet as a grave. The power is off, the robotic limbs are becalmed, and the once thumping presses are depressed. The Steam Controller assembly room is assembling no more, and with the recent Steam sale clearing out all the stock, the grand experiment is over. It’s the final part of Valve’s great Steam Machines undertaking to be shut down. They’d hoped to convince you to have a PC in the living room, or a small box for you to stream your library from your main PC. The Steam Machines never took off, the Steam Link box was discontinued a year ago, and now the Steam Controller will no longer be made. Gone, but not forgotten. The Steam Controller made a fan out of me. It freed me from my PC a little, and made me enjoy joypads again. All of them, not just Valve’s. I now own three Steam … [Read more...] about Goodnight, sweet Steam Controller
Home • PC Game News • 19 Dominic Tarason Contributor 12th July 2018 / 11:03PM Everything old is new again, and everything once overlooked by publishers is cool once more. Today, publisher Kalypso Media (Sudden Strike, Tropico, Dungeons et al) went and bagged themselves the rights to all of Pyro Studios’s old games, which means the entire Commandos series of stealthy tactical puzzlers. Better still, the publisher has already confirmed that new games in the series are on the way, as well as “an extensive adaptation” of the older games to current systems, which sounds like remasters to me. This does seem to be one of those deals where everyone involved goes home happy. In Kalypso’s official announcement, Ignacio Pérez, founder of Pyro studios is quoted as saying: “We have been looking for a suitable partner for the continuation of our products and brands for a long time. Kalypso has great expertise and experience … [Read more...] about Kalypso nab Commandos rights, promises new games
Home • Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive • 27 Commandos in chaps Tim Stone Contributor 12th July 2016 / 3:30PM Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time. I’d love to be able to claim I was introduced to this brilliant Spaghetti Western-themed team tactics game by a box of chocolate-flavoured puffed rice, but like most sensible cereal purchasers, in 2001 I was on a serious Shreddies bender. It was actually an enthusiastic review by Chris Buxton in PC Gamer UK that persuaded me that I urgently needed to meet John Cooper (Eastwoodian bounty hunter, a dab-hand with knife or Colt) Doc McCoy (snake-oil salesman, medic and sniper), Sam Williams (Winchester-wielding, dynamite-hurling escaped slave), Pablo Sanchez (burly bandit, invaluable for room clearing), Kate O’Hara (garter-flashing saloon temptress) and Mia Yung (diminutive blowpiper with peanut-partial pet primate). … [Read more...] about Have You Played… Desperados: Wanted Dead Or Alive?
