Digital Foundry will be hosting a panel on the future of gaming technology at EGX at the Birmingham NEC next week, offering an in-depth look at Nvidia's new GeForce RTX technology and discussing how the new hardware could shape the future of gaming graphics. With the current console generation reaching its conclusion and replacement hardware in development, the question is: what is next-gen? What sets the new wave of gaming hardware apart from the capabilities of PS4 and Xbox One? In presenting its vision for the future of rendering, Nvidia is first out of the gate, betting on real-time ray tracing and powerful 'deep learning' tensor cores as the tech we'll need to take gaming to the next level. We'll be talking about the results of our RTX tests during the reviewing phase and discussing the potential implications for the next-gen consoles. Those who prefer to look back rather than forward are also catered for with a DF Retro session on Friday. John Linneman will be discussing the … [Read more...] about Digital Foundry to host GeForce RTX panel at EGX 2018

Digital Foundry Examines Visuals And Performance In Devil May Cry 5 Xbox One X Gameplay
At Gamescom this year, the Devil May Cry 5 demo was one of the many different ones up for grabs, and now Digital Foundry has released a video talking about the visuals and performance of the Devil May Cry 5 Xbox One X gameplay, which looks very impressive and very smooth. The Devil May Cry 5 gameplay has been out ever since Gamescom began and has gotten very positive reactions from many as they went through a segment of the game and killed a boss named Goliath. Now, Digital Foundry’s video goes less from the gameplay side of the game and more into its visuals and performance. Being on the Xbox One X, which is seen by many as the most powerful console currently available on the market (even over the Playstation 4 Pro), the Devil May Cry 5 demo is being pushed into top-notch visual quality and performance, with a native 4K resolution and near-constant 60 frames per second. However, while they lock the frame rate at 60 for gameplay, they unlock the framerate for cutscenes, and … [Read more...] about Digital Foundry Examines Visuals And Performance In Devil May Cry 5 Xbox One X Gameplay
No Man’s Sky Next on PC is lovely, but suffers performance issues, says Digital Foundry
Digital Foundry gave No Man’s Sky Next PC a go, and while it was found to be visually appealing, it lacks a bit when it comes to performance. The No Man’s Sky Next PC update was released last week, giving Digital Foundry plenty of time to try this version out. It was also released for Xbox One and PS4. According to DF’s Alex Battaglia, No Man’s Sky Next looks beautiful, but the “range of performance problems and issues” with the game caused some disappointment. Performance even on a high-end PC “doesn’t seem to be where it should be,” reads the Digital Foundry report. “Basics like v-sync don’t seem to work properly… and user-friendliness comforts and presentation create a genuinely poor introduction to the game,” said DF. “For a title that has improved so dramatically since launch, we genuinely hope to see Hello Games make one last push to make life easier for PC users. “The implementation of … [Read more...] about No Man’s Sky Next on PC is lovely, but suffers performance issues, says Digital Foundry

Crackdown on Xbox One X “scales up wonderfully to 4K resolution,” says Digital Foundry
Crackdown received enhancements for Xbox One X last week, and Digital Foundry has give it the once over. Xbox 360 titles The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, Forza Horizon, Fable Anniversary and Crackdown were recently enhanced for Xbox One X. Crackdown was also added to the backward compatibility library the same day. According to Digital Foundry, Xbox One X enhancements have made Crackdown “prettier and smoother,” and “even better than you remember it.” The analysis states Crackdown “scales up wonderfully to 4K” and the gameplay still hold up up after all these years. Since I’m not too well versed in such technical black magic, here’s word straight from Digital Foundry: “Deficiencies in the original presentation are helpfully addressed too: 16x anisotropic filtering helps resolve soupy ground textures in particular, while the low resolution alpha transparency effects that dominated Crackdown’s explosive effects are also … [Read more...] about Crackdown on Xbox One X “scales up wonderfully to 4K resolution,” says Digital Foundry
