Just a couple of weeks ago HTC was confidently rebutting claims about VR dying a huge and monstrous death with record sales of their Vive headset. Now, in a rather more desperate-seeming move, they’ve announced their Viveport subscription service will shortly be available on arch-rival headset, the Oculus Rift. Who’s winning the race for total VR domination? You decide! Set for a launch on September 4, HTC’s line is that, by opening up Viveport to Oculus peeps, it will double the potential audience for developers and players alike, giving everyone the ‘best in both worlds’ as handily signposted in the header image above. All developers need to do is choose to opt-in for Oculus Rift support, after which the Rift will then appear as a ‘compatible headset’ in the Viveport listing tab. That all sounds well and good, and will no doubt be a nice extra for Rift owners. It does, however, rather suggest that Viveport isn’t doing nearly as much … [Read more...] about Vive’s subscription service will shortly arrive on… Oculus Rift?

Today Ninja Theory announced that Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice will get a virtual reality mode on July 31st. According to the press release, the VR edition will be compatible with both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, and it won’t be just a separate mode or an addition. It’ll be the whole game playable in virtual reality. The good news doesn’t end there, as the VR Edition will be completely free to those who already own the Steam version of the game, or purchase it in the future. Unfortunately, the mode won’t be available on PlayStation VR, but that isn’t very surprising, considering that Ninja Theory recommends a GTX 1080 graphics card as a requirement for your rig running the game in virtual reality. We also get a developer’s diary video showcasing the VR Edition and explaining how it came to be. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is currently available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. You’ll get to see the main character using a jetpack to explore, along with attaching various limbs to their body to upgrade themselves. Eventually, they get into a fight, which sees the player throwing grenades, deploying energy shields, and using an assault rifle with various fire modes. At the end of the fight, they then revive another robot. On a blog on … [Read more...] about Insomniac Announce Stormland, An Open World FPS for Oculus Rift
