Audio player loading… Following major reworks to the Void and Solar subclasses, Bungie has announced that Destiny 2's electrifying Arc subclass will soon be getting the 3.0 treatment with a " go fast and hit stuff (opens in new tab) " overhaul that the developers hope will turn players into cranked-up Jason Stathams. One of the main inspirations for the Arc 3.0 rework is the 2009 flick Crank 2 (opens in new tab) , in which Statham's heart is stolen and replaced by a big battery that he has to keep charged by electrocuting himself in increasingly bizarre and violent ways. It sounds stupid, and it is, but it's also a ton of fun—a self-aware showcase of bananas-grade action that wilfully, aggressively rejects any semblance of rationality. That's the kind of "emotional fantasy" Bungie says it's trying to generate with Arc 3.0. "Arc is really just, 'go fast and hit stuff'," Destiny designer Sam Dunn said. "We call it the 'hold W' subclass. Everything is built around … [Read more...] about Destiny 2’s Arc 3.0 rework is inspired by a bonkers Jason Statham movie

Politics streamer Destiny receives indefinite ban from Twitch
Audio player loading… A politics-focused streamer called Destiny has been indefinitely banned from Twitch. A screenshot Destiny shared (opens in new tab) to his subreddit indicates that the ban can only be lifted on appeal, and that it was applied for "Promoting, encouraging, or facilitating the discrimination or denigration of a group of people based on their protected characteristics." Twitch has not provided a definitive motivation for the ban beyond that, but Destiny said in a Reddit post (opens in new tab) that he believes it was imposed "because of my claims that transwomen shouldn't compete with ciswomen in women's athletics," due of the likelihood that they'll dominate in their fields. That belief, expressed earlier this month, attracted widespread criticism on social media. Another potential cause, noted by Dot Esports (opens in new tab) , is a recent "debate" Destiny held with white nationalist Nick Fuentes. Fuentes was banned from Twitch in 2019, and … [Read more...] about Politics streamer Destiny receives indefinite ban from Twitch
After eight years, the space MMO where players create the ships launches next month
Audio player loading… Developer Novaquark has announced that the ambitious, player-driven MMO Dual Universe will launch on PC September 27. The game's been in development for eight years and the pitch is essentially a player-created EVE Online, with a flexible voxel-based crafting system that allows players to build more-or-less what they want. Dual Universe has been in beta for the last two years, over which time it's gradually implemented stuff like space warfare, asteroid mining, and space markets, without the whole galaxy collapsing. The launch will also feature a new first-time player experience (something that EVE itself has, somewhat belatedly, become obsessive about in recent years). The developer claims that this features some of "the most advanced voxel technology ever created", and that player creation is only one part of the game's appeal: the point being that most systems are down to players. The economy is player-driven and the idea is that every playstyle … [Read more...] about After eight years, the space MMO where players create the ships launches next month
Microsoft inclusive lead reveals there’s a ‘bit of a plateau’ in accessibility tech
Accessibility Week This feature is part of PC Gamer's Accessibility Week (opens in new tab) , running from August 16, where we're exploring accessible games, hardware, mods and more. I've been speaking to Bryce Johnson, Inclusive Lead at Microsoft Devices and co-inventor of the Xbox Adaptive Controller (XAC), about the process behind and reception of the accessible gaming device. And although he's happy about where the project ended up and where the accessibility industry is going as a whole, he's a little concerned about where things might go from here. The XAC is Microsoft's answer to making games more accessible for players with disabilities. That description makes it sound so simple, but making an accessible controller is definitely not straightforward, even with backing from a company whose net worth is about $1 trillion. Johnson explains that it was first important to recognise the limitations of current controller configurations. Without full fluid range of … [Read more...] about Microsoft inclusive lead reveals there’s a ‘bit of a plateau’ in accessibility tech
Dying Light 2 teases first major DLC and looks like it’s set in an arena
Audio player loading… Dying Light 2: Stay Human has been a big success for developer Techland, shifting well over 5 million copies (opens in new tab) , and the studio's model as with the original is to support it with DLC for years to come. The first major story DLC (opens in new tab) was delayed until September, but today saw a new tease for 'Bloody Ties' and the promise of a full reveal at Gamescom. There's not much in the way of press blurb for this, but the keyword definitely appears to be 'brutal'. Sure enough the teaser shows a rather bulky chap overcoming a zombie via repeated blunt force trauma (which we initially view through a skull's eyehole). Not exactly sunshine and lollipops, then, but then what does one expect of a location called, ahem, Carnage Hall. The setup has elements reminiscent of a TV studio, with billboards flashing "All roads lead to Carnage Hall" as the main character stands over the highly stylised warrior skull. The vibe is wholly … [Read more...] about Dying Light 2 teases first major DLC and looks like it’s set in an arena
The biggest bitcoin miners lost over $1 billion during this year’s crypto crash
Audio player loading… The largest trio of publicly traded bitcoin mining companies reported a combined loss of well over $1 billion during the summer, the result of cryptocurrency markets experiencing an unprecedented crash . The three largest US bitcoin miners—Core Scientific, Marathon Digital Holdings, and Riot Blockchain—reported significant losses in recent quarterly earnings reports (thanks, Bloomberg ). Core Scientific took the biggest hit of the three with a loss of $862 million, with Riot Blockchain losing $366 million and Marathon suffering a $192 million loss during the crypto free-fall. The crash has forced the bigger bitcoin miners to sell off more coins than usual to repay debt and cover operational costs from Q2 into Q3, in hopes of riding out things until things stabilize and recover. Jaranc Mellerud, an analyst from Arcane Crypto, told Bloomberg, "Public miners are still dumping their bitcoin holdings at a higher rate than their production … [Read more...] about The biggest bitcoin miners lost over $1 billion during this year’s crypto crash
She-Hulk Bosses And Star Comment On Overworked VFX Artists Working With Marvel
Over the past few months, there's been a discussion online about VFX artists being displeased when working for Marvel Entertainment. According to one Reddit thread , some artists are done working with Marvel, and they've been harboring those feelings for quite some time. However, the cast and crew of the upcoming She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Disney+ series stand in solidarity with these talented artists. During the TCA summer press tour She-Hulk panel, the showrunner discussed what's happening with VFX artists Marvel has hired to work on its movies and TV shows. "I feel incredibly deferential to how talented these artists are and how quickly they have to work," said EP and showrunner Jessica Gao. "Obviously, like much quicker than probably [the amount of time] given to them, in terms of like churning these things out. "I know that there's a lot of eyes on the CG and a lot of critique or whatever, but I do think that we have to be super conscious of, like you're saying, how the … [Read more...] about She-Hulk Bosses And Star Comment On Overworked VFX Artists Working With Marvel

Release dates for Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and World of Warcraft : Dragonflight may have leaked, if an image that circulated on the WoW subreddit which reportedly showed global release times for a number of Activision Blizzard products is to be believed. The since deleted image appeared to show internal documentation related to readiness for various upcoming Activision Blizzard launches, such as the recently announced release date of the pre-patch for WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic .
