A year before Forsaken, Destiny 2 was met with praise from the Destiny community as well as critics. But only a few months later, it became clear that the game was missing the enjoyable repetition that players found in the original Destiny. For the past nine months, Destiny 2 has been struggling through scandals and mediocre expansions, trying to reach this moment. Destiny developer Bungie promised that Forsaken would fix all of Destiny 2’s problems. Instead, the studio managed to do more than I could’ve ever hoped for. [Ed. note: At this stage of Destiny 2: Forsaken, there are still pieces missing, like the raid and the evolution of the Dreaming City. We’ll update this review with our thoughts on the endgame — including the raid — soon.] Forsaken’s improvements start at the base game, removing restrictions that Destiny 2 added to the franchise last year. The weapon system in Destiny 2 has been completely overhauled, letting players use different … [Read more...] about Destiny 2: Forsaken is the Destiny I’ve waited four years to play
Destiny 2 why is it bad
Have you noticed that you don’t hear much aboutDestiny 2 anymore? Destiny 2 seems to have fallen off the map, after launching to considerable sales and excitement just six months ago. It promised a bigger world to explore and more stuff to do than its predecessor did. The game launched to rapturous acclaim, from this outlet and from pretty much all the others. So why does it seem like no one is playing anymore? Microtransactions 2017 was the year game publishers tried to push microtransactions to the next level, and the audience pushed back. Destiny 2 and Star Wars Battlefront 2 were the worst offenders, and both games have become cautionary tales. Bungie built the sequel around the Eververse real-money economy, and this adjustment poisoned many of the features that should have been clear improvements over the original game. Destiny 2’s Bright Engram loot boxes were filled with enough cool and useful stuff that it felt kind of crummy to ignore them, or to subsist on the … [Read more...] about Is Destiny 2 dead?
It seems that Destiny 2’s player base can’t catch a break when it comes to the latest Faction Rally event. First, Bungie nerfed the best farming method for Faction tokens and now players are noticing that there are only one or two new weapons in the loot pool this time around. Which is surprising considering a previous datamine revealed that there was a handful of new Faction weapons (for each Faction) added to the Destiny 2 database. Currently, it’s unclear if the problem is a bug or it is by design, but Destiny 2 players are noting that the only new weapon dropping from the Faction Rally is a sidearm. There are new rewards for each of the three Factions when one wins the event, but as far as engram loot the sidearm is the only confirmed drop. Everything else is from the old loot pools, including rewards from past Faction Rally events. While we don’t know why Bungie decided not to add any of the new weapons to the loot pool, some believe it is tied to the new … [Read more...] about Are Destiny 2 Faction Rally Weapon Drops Bugged?
Destiny 2 has removed the Faction Rally token exploit/farming method that allows players to open Lost Sector chests in rapid succession. Developer Bungie made the change alongside the launch of the latest Faction Rally so that players will focus on the true spirit of the event rather than mindless grinding. Specifically, the hotfix has introduced a new Lost Sector chest lockout for Destiny 2 that prevents players from opening more than two chests in a row. If a player should open two Lost Sector chests within 10 minutes of each other they will not receive any rewards from Lost Sector chests for the next 10 minutes. Clearly, Bungie was frustrated with the Lost Sector chest farming seen in the last Faction Rally, but this reaction is unlikely to go over well with players. For starters, it limits players that want to complete Lost Sectors like normal since those activities typically only take a few minutes (at most) to complete. Additionally, there is the concern that Bungie is … [Read more...] about Destiny 2 Removes Faction Rally Farming and Adds Lost Sector Lockout
The Destiny 2 beta is now open to anybody who owns a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, and everyone will have more than two full days to check it out. A few of us here at Polygon have been playing since the beta went live on PS4 this past Tuesday, and we’ve been putting it through its paces to get a feel for how Destiny 2 plays (and to get our bearings in this universe after many months away). Bungie said this week that the beta is “based off a build of the game that is now months old,” so there’s a chance that the studio has already addressed our criticisms, or will do so by the time Destiny 2 launches on Sept. 6. With that said, here are thoughts on the beta from three Destiny veterans: managing editor Michael McWhertor, social media manager Ashley Oh and senior reporter Samit Sarkar. Samit: Surprise, surprise: Destiny 2 plays a lot like Destiny 1! That’s obviously a good thing — of all the complaints leveled against the original Destiny, no one would … [Read more...] about Destiny 2 feels familiar, which is both good and bad
