When Destiny 2’s first gameplay for the Forsaken expansion appeared many fans noticed something was off about the voice of Cayde-6. Now, thanks to confirmation from original Cayde voice actor Nathan Fillion, it appears they were right. While out promoting his new Uncharted short film, Fillion confirmed that he did not provide the voice for Cayde-6 in the Destiny 2: Forsaken trailer. Moreover, Fillion did not return to provide any voice lines for Cayde-6 in the expansion. After hands-on sessions at E3 2018, many had a sneaking suspicion that Fillion wasn’t returning. The voice in the demo we played didn’t sound like usual Cayde-6, but rather a sound-alike. Now it all makes sense. This may come as surprise to fans but it makes sense given Cayde-6 meets his demise at the beginning of Forsaken’s story campaign. Presumably, Fillion is one of Destiny 2’s most expensive voice actors, so it’s possible having him come in to do a few lines did not make fiscal … [Read more...] about Nathan Fillion Does Not Voice Cayde-6 in Destiny 2: Forsaken

Bungie, in some ways, has captured lightning in a bottle with Destiny. It’s got a great sci-fi look and, notably, the most refined shooting gameplay that I have ever had the pleasure to play with, next to id Software’s reincarnation of DOOM. There is so much to love about this series and yet, so much to be disappointed with. Every minute I spend with Destiny never feels wasted, but I can’t help but think of the ways that Bungie could improve what is a solid foundation. Each big release of new content or a new entry in the series since the first game’s release, which includes The Taken King expansion and Destiny 2 last fall, seem designed to fix the problems that players previously had with the base game. However, those initial problems that Bungie fixes are then quickly replaced with new ones; balancing, item drop rates, and lack of consistent content are just a few of the well-known problems that Destiny has had since it debuted in 2014. Once … [Read more...] about Will Destiny 2: Forsaken Get Me to Play Destiny More Consistently?
The rule usually goes that if you don't see a body in a movie, TV show or video game, that character might not be dead. But when it comes to Cayde-6 in Destiny 2 Forsaken, I'm afraid to say that he is dead. Really dead. Like, there's not going to be a Cayde-7 dead. Speaking to Bungie at E3, I asked the big question about our boy Cayde, and unfortunately it's just as you feared."He's dead. His ghost is dead," stresses Scott Taylor, Destiny 2 Forsaken Project Lead at Bungie, emphatically, much to my dismay. "We wanted to come out with that to do a couple things. We wanted to establish the tone of the game, and show that we're serious about it. We also want people to process it. You'll play a mission with him, and you're not really sure when this is going to happen, or how, so the emotional experience of that would be very different if you just turned on the game, you saw it and it was all just a shock. It's actually a little more rich and interesting if you have time to sit with it, … [Read more...] about Cayde-6 is 100% definitely dead forever in Destiny 2 Forsaken, so start preparing yourselves
At E3 2018, Destiny 2: Forsaken developer Bungie spoiled its own game. In a trailer that weighed in at a svelte minute and 39 seconds, only one thing happened, but it was a Very Big Thing: Cayde-6 died. I thought it was weird for a developer to give away something so big until I got my hands on the first level of Forsaken behind closed doors at E3, and I realized that the beginning of the campaign is a giant troll in the best kind of way. If you’ve watched the trailer above, then you know what’s going to happen — and Forsaken’s creators know that you know it. In the first half-hour of the Forsaken campaign, Bungie and High Moon Studios (who it’s safe to call co-developers of Forsaken) don’t miss an opportunity to put Cayde-6 in several precarious situations — every one of which seems like it’s obviously going to lead to his death. Because we already know the ending. Except that they don’t lead to his death, and that’s a … [Read more...] about Destiny 2: Forsaken’s campaign begins with glorious trolls
By now, Destiny 2 players have likely heard plenty about how unique and exciting Forsaken’s new Gambit mode is. Billed as competitive PvE with a side of PvP, Gambit is unlike anything seen in Destiny thus far, but it’s easily one of the best additions in the entire franchise. As part of Activision’s E3 2018 presence, Bungie brought a demo of Destiny 2: Forsaken’s Gambit mode and we were able to go hands-on at the event. And like most of the participants at the Destiny Community Summit, it was hard to walk away from Gambit. The mode has a lot of moving parts but the basics are fairly simple. Two teams of four enter a PvE arena where enemies will constantly spawn. The particular race that the team face is decided by a coin toss at the beginning of the match, but for our demo we went up against the Cabal. At the start, Gambit plays out like a basic PvE skirmish. Players take out enemies as they would in any other Destiny 2 activity. However, with each kill, the … [Read more...] about Destiny 2 Hands-On With Forsaken’s New Gambit Mode
