Have you noticed that you don’t hear much aboutDestiny 2 anymore? Destiny 2 seems to have fallen off the map, after launching to considerable sales and excitement just six months ago. It promised a bigger world to explore and more stuff to do than its predecessor did. The game launched to rapturous acclaim, from this outlet and from pretty much all the others. So why does it seem like no one is playing anymore? Microtransactions 2017 was the year game publishers tried to push microtransactions to the next level, and the audience pushed back. Destiny 2 and Star Wars Battlefront 2 were the worst offenders, and both games have become cautionary tales. Bungie built the sequel around the Eververse real-money economy, and this adjustment poisoned many of the features that should have been clear improvements over the original game. Destiny 2’s Bright Engram loot boxes were filled with enough cool and useful stuff that it felt kind of crummy to ignore them, or to subsist on the … [Read more...] about Is Destiny 2 dead?

It’s been an interesting week for both Bungie and Destiny 2 fans as the developer posted a huge update regarding the future of the game. Though the developer normally likes to keep its cards close to its chest, community backlash over the past month has essentially forced Bungie’s hand. In an unprecedented move, Bungie not only laid out its plans for thr next few weeks but also rough ideas that it has in the planning phase for later in 2018. Needless to say, this is the most open Bungie has ever been and there’s a lot of information for players to digest. For the time being, however, the first Faction Rally of season 2 has also finally arrived this week. During the week, level 20 players who have finished the Red War campaign are invited to join one of the three factions in the Tower: Future War Cult, New Monarchy, or Dead Orbit. Bungie says it’s making big changes to Destiny 2, in terms of how players earn rewards, how the game’s Eververse microtransaction economy works and other aspects of the game that have elicited vocal dissatisfaction from the game’s playerbase, in a far-reaching development update. Today, game director Christopher Barrett outlined Bungie’s plans for Destiny 2 for the full year in a post on the developer’s website. Destiny players who were rightfully unhappy with the game’s recent holiday event, The Dawning, will be heartened to hear that Bungie plans to scale back the importance of Eververse. Barrett said that the in-game store, which primarily sells cosmetic items, will be changing in upcoming seasons of Destiny 2. “We recognize that the scales are tipped too far towards Tess at the moment, and Eververse was never intended to be a substitute for end game content and rewards,” Barrett said. “So, we’ll be making three changes … [Read more...] about Bungie says it’s scaling back Eververse in Destiny 2 content roadmap

We’re going to explain why the community is so upset with Destiny 2’s microtransactions, and how Bungie might make things better moving forward. And the best model for doing loot boxes and microtransactions already exists under Destiny 2 publisher Activision-Blizzard’s corporate umbrella. It’s a little game called Overwatch. For the first time in 2018, Destiny 2's mysterious merchant, Xur, has arrived in-game. As always, he has a selection of Exotic gear for sale in return for Legendary Shards, along with two of the other items he recently began selling. Below, we've laid out exactly where to find Xur and what he's offering up this week--and you won't need to own Curse of Osiris to pick up any of it.For this appearance, Xur can be found on Io. To reach him, you'll want to spawn in at the Giant's Scar Landing Zone and jump on your sparrow. Head straight and just to the right, through the opening of the structure in front of you, and then follow the path to the left a short ways. Xur is just up the hill on the left, inside an otherwise nondescript cave.In terms of what he's selling, as usual he has the Three of Coins, which boosts your likelihood of receiving an Exotic drop for four hours. (Keep in mind, a Three of Coins fix is on the way, as it doesn't currently affect everything that it should.)
