The late-night press conference from indie publisher Devolver Digital tends to be ridiculous, but an extended riff about a new cryptocurrency called “Lootboxcoin” seemed like just another silly joke ... until we realized that yes, you can buy one. As of this writing, one coin is $131. That value is not based on anything. “The officially unofficial Lootboxcoin from Devolver Digital as seen in the Devolver Digital 2018 E3 Press Conference,” the item description states. “Please note that this coin is 2.5” in diameter and has no actual value and by no means is to be considered cryptocurrency or a currency of any kind. You can’t buy anything with it. In fact, it’s insane for you to really buy it unless you want to prove your loyalty to Fork Parker, Nina Struthers (Chief Synergy Officer), and the Devolver Digital executive board.” I lied above when I said that the price as of this writing is $131, because it’s now $145 and I … [Read more...] about Yes, you can actually buy Devolver Digital’s Lootboxcoin

Predicting E3 2018: Devolver Digital
Last year, Devolver Digital made a splash with their very … unique … E3 showing they had. If you haven’t seen it, you need to go here and watch it now. Don’t worry I’ll be back and able to explain a bit more about this year after that. This year Devolver Digital has announced they are bringing their E3 show back—only this time with actual game reveals! Not only that, but the Devolver Digital Big Fancy Press Conference will also feature the return of Devolver Labs, the research and development arm of Devolver, which last year brought us Earliest Access (game creation from an idea!) and the throwing money at the screen payment method, as well as the numerous mishaps that were perhaps not mishaps. That makes this article a bit different than the others in this series as we have two different targets to hit: what games are going to be shown and what industry targets will Devolver Digital line up to lampoon (and that’s after E3 itself as … [Read more...] about Predicting E3 2018: Devolver Digital
The proposed 80% cut in Ethereum mining reward is good news for gamers and the planet
The developers of Ethereum have published a proposal for the next update to their GPU-friendly cryptocurrency, which will start to move it away from its current reliance on our gaming graphics cards. Part of this proposal will cut the block reward of mining Ethereum from 3 ETH down to 0.6 ETH per block mined. Check out our pick of the best graphics cards you can actually buy today. The new Hybrid Casper update proposal, published April 20, is designed to shift the cryptocurrency away from the inherent problems associated with the current way it’s being mined, and is part of the transition from a proof-of-work consensus to a final proof-of-stake model. The proposed hybrid will use a combination of both models to ease the transition, but also to ensure the altcoin doesn’t suffer the same ASIC dominance that’s now running (ruining?) Bitcoin, and to ease the massive energy demands of the GPU mining farms. With Bitmain controlling 50% of the mining power of Bitcoin, … [Read more...] about The proposed 80% cut in Ethereum mining reward is good news for gamers and the planet
Ethereum mining ASIC set to launch in July could bring GPU prices back down to earth
Cryptocurrency mining giant, Bitmain, have just confirmed they will be launching their own Ethereum ASIC miner: the Antminer E3. Why should gamers give a damn? Well, it could ease graphics card demand globally, for one. Looking for a shiny new GPU? Here are the best graphics cards of 2018. Thanks to its ASIC-resistant design, Ethereum is one of the largest GPU-sinks in the crypto-business - which hasn’t been great for the graphics card market. However, Bitmain are betting on their new Antminer turning a profit and that could signal a big change in the future of the Ethereum cryptocurrency and the market as a whole. Rumours of Bitmain’s near-imminent launch of an Ethereum miner were floated last week when a financial analyst from Susquehanna reported Bitmain were “readying the supply chain for shipments in 2Q18”. They weren’t the only ones either, with further Ethereum miners supposedly in the works from rival companies. Bitmain’s Antminer E3 is now … [Read more...] about Ethereum mining ASIC set to launch in July could bring GPU prices back down to earth
