Chris Pratt says his Mario voice is “unlike anything you’ve heard before” in the Mario world
Chris Pratt has addressed questions about his accent in the upcoming animated Super Mario Bros. movie, saying he's doing something "updated" and "unlike anything you've heard before." His casting in the role of the Italian plumber received some criticism when it was announced, as Pratt himself is not Italian. "I worked really closely with the directors and trying out a few things and landed on something that I’m really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear," Pratt told Variety (opens in new tab) . "It’s an animated voiceover narrative. It’s not a live-action movie. I’m not gonna be wearing a plumber suit running all over. I’m providing a voice for an animated character, and it is updated and unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before." The currently untitled movie's voice cast also includes Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. "All I can … [Read more...] about Chris Pratt says his Mario voice is “unlike anything you’ve heard before” in the Mario world
Venom goes back to his glory days in Lethal Protector
Prepare for a 'Venom: Year One' style story in 2022, from the character's co-creator David Michelinie, called Venom: Lethal Protector (opens in new tab) . (Yes, that's right - the same name the first Venom (opens in new tab) series in 1993 went by - also written by Michelinie.) Working with artist Ivan Fiorelli, Michelinie is turning back the clock to when Eddie Brock was a despondent newspaper reporter first crossing paths with the symbiote that would become Venom. (opens in new tab) "Getting to do a multi-issue story with the original Venom was like sitting down to dinner with an old friend - who wants to eat your brain for dessert!” Michelinie says in the announcement. "It was both fun and exciting, and I hope people enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it." According to Marvel, Venom: Lethal Protector isn't just a trip down memory lane, but a hint at "what's to come in his future!" Michelinie and Todd McFarlane created Venom in the … [Read more...] about Venom goes back to his glory days in Lethal Protector
How Batman: The Animated Series changed the DCU forever
Batman: The Animated Series ran for just 85 episodes across four seasons in the early '90s, but its impact is still being felt 30 years later. For many, as noted by Catwoman writer Tini Howard , Batman: The Animated Series defines Gotham and its cast of characters – and the DC comic book universe (DCU) has been widely affected by decisions made for the show in the decades since it aired. The show's effects go beyond introducing popular characters to comics canon, like Harley Quinn and Renee Montoya. Batman: The Animated Series also overhauled major character backstories and introduced the world to definitive takes on villains, like Mr. Freeze and the Joker, respectively. September 5, 2022 marks the official 30th anniversary of Batman: The Animated Series. To celebrate, let's examine how the show has changed the DC comics Universe, for better or worse. New characters introduced in Batman: The Animated Series Batman: The Animated Series introduced several original … [Read more...] about How Batman: The Animated Series changed the DCU forever

Some WoW Fans Are Begging Blizzard To Delay Dragonflight
The release of World of Warcraft's next expansion, Dragonflight, is far closer than most players expected, with Blizzard recently confirming the expansion to be on track for a 2022 release . That was not news many players in the game's community expected to hear. After all, when Blizzard announced Dragonflight back in April , it made sure not to give any kind of release date or window, instead telling players it would arrive when it was ready. "When it's ready" is apparently very soon, as in "before or on December 31, 2022" soon. Players aren't sure what to make of this. On one hand, the community is desperate to move on from the disappointment that was Shadowlands and return to Azeroth proper. On the other hand, given the late announcement of the expansion and the fact that alpha testing for Dragonflight has yet to start on the game's public test realm (but is likely coming very soon), players are concerned a 2022 release date is too soon. As such, a significant part of … [Read more...] about Some WoW Fans Are Begging Blizzard To Delay Dragonflight
Shenmue Creator Yu Suzuki Explains The Giant Flying Swans Of Air Twister
Yu Suzuki, the creator of Shenmue, Space Harrier, and many other games, is releasing his latest, Air Twister, via Apple Arcade on June 24. Ahead of its release, we spent some time with the game and even had the chance to speak with Suzuki through a translator about the dream-like experience wherein you ride giant swans across alien landscapes. Suzuki confirmed some of the game's details--like protagonist Princess Arch’s size and what classic children’s novel served as the game’s main inspiration--and talked about how much he enjoyed one of GameSpot’s top 10 games of 2021 , It Takes Two. I've been playing Air Twister and it is bizarre. Is that how you thought people would react to it? Yu Suzuki: I didn't really know what people would expect. I just made the game. That's normal for me. Air Twister feels a bit like you're playing an interactive dream. Was that the intention? Thank you very much. I appreciate your comment. Yeah, not particularly. I wasn't really thinking that … [Read more...] about Shenmue Creator Yu Suzuki Explains The Giant Flying Swans Of Air Twister

How Elden Ring, The Hobbit, and Guitar Hero are shaping Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, the upcoming Soulslike from A44 Games, is a melting pot of ideas and inspirations. For one, it's the indirect follow-up to the developer's 2018 action role-player Ashen – a thoughtful slant on the genre which, whilst far from revolutionary, is a wonderful example of the formula executed well. The New Zealand outfit's next outing is also a Soulslike game, built in the looming shadow of Elden Ring – the biggest, most ambitious project Dark Souls mastermind FromSoftware has ever crafted, one which has undoubtedly set a new standard for other genre games to be compared against. And, in a previous life, members of the A44 Games team worked at Weta Digital, a special effects studio who helped bring the fantastical beasts of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit film series to life. Which is to say: the DNA that underwrites Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is multifaceted. And while creating a straight Ashen sequel might have an easier proposition for the developer's … [Read more...] about How Elden Ring, The Hobbit, and Guitar Hero are shaping Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn
