Everybody can agree that the highlight of E3 2019 was when Keanu Reeves appeared in the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer. After the trailer, Mr. Reeves himself walked on stage. The extent to which this secret was guarded made the reveal that much better. The surprise was strong enough to boost Cyberpunk 2077 pre-order sales. Was celebrity intervention needed for that, though? In a post E3 2019 interview with Keanu Reeves, the Cyberpunk star stated that he doesn’t think video games need Hollywood. Of course, Mr. Reeves is known for being humble so this statement fits with his persona. He did add weight to the statement though. “I don’t think [videogames] need legitimizing. If anything I’d say it’s gone the other way. It’s more of the influence gaming’s had on, let’s call it Hollywood,” He’s saying that it’s actually the other way around. Hollywood is now more focused on taking notes from the video game industry. The upcoming video … [Read more...] about Keanu Reeves Reflects On Celebrity Influence On Video Games

Some people have said that having a celebrity appear in a videogame is jarring. Watching movies must be hell for those people. We're all pretty stoked by the idea of Keanu Reeves being in Cyberpunk 2077, where he'll be playing one of the tabletop RPG's iconic characters, rockerboy Johnny Silverhand. But why stop there? Let's put him in some other games. Our weekend question is this: What other game would be improved by adding Keanu Reeves? Here are our team's answers, let us know yours in the comments below.Andy Kelly: Euro Truck Simulator 2I wanna look over to the passenger seat and see Keanu sitting there, ideally wearing a mesh trucker cap. And when I do something cool, like expertly navigating a wide load down a narrow country lane or nimbly overtaking a caravan, I want him to turn to me and say "Woah." Otherwise he just sits there quietly, maybe giving me the occasional nugget of encouragement when my fuel's running low or the deadline for a delivery is fast approaching. Euro Truck … [Read more...] about What other game would be improved by adding Keanu Reeves?
CD Projekt RED reveals just how much dialogue Keanu Reeves’ character Johnny Silverhand has in Cyberpunk 2077. The Keanu Reeves character reveal was one of the most talked about moment at E3 2019 as fans had not been expecting the Hollywood star, known for his roles in The Matrix and John Wick, to be in the game. Speaking to Geoff Keighley at E3 2019, CD Projekt RED founder Marcin Iwinski said that Keanu Reeves has the second most dialogue in Cyberpunk 2077. Iwiński estimates that Keanu did around 15 days of voice recording in the studio. The only character who has more lines of dialogue in the game than Keanu Reeves is the player character, V. When reading this, it makes it more of a surprise that Microsoft was able to keep Reeves’ appearance at E3 2019 a secret. The developer also said that Reeves’ role in the game is “huge” and that fans will “see a lot of Keanu, you will hear even more of Keanu in the game.” Few fans will mind … [Read more...] about Keanu Reeves Has Second Most Dialogue in Cyberpunk 2077
For my money, the absolute highlight of E3 was the Keanu Reeves reveal during the Cyberpunk 2077 segment of Microsoft's press event. Ending the trailer with the Keanu reveal was genius, and bringing him onto the stage (especially after keeping the whole thing so completely secret) was inspired. It was obviously a huge win for CD Projekt, but in the big picture, was it really necessary? Does the presence of major movie stars help to "legitimize" videogames as mainstream entertainment? "I don't think [videogames] need legitimizing. If anything I'd say it's gone the other way. It's more of the influence gaming's had on, let's call it Hollywood," Reeves said in a post-E3 interview with the BBC. "Certainly with the Marvel Universe, right? But then gaming probably started in the beginning with Hollywood, right? I think these technologies have been talking to each other. I mean, Marlon Brando in the first Superman … I remember him saying, 'Okay, so now they can just digitize how I … [Read more...] about Keanu Reeves says videogames don’t need Hollywood stars
There is something profoundly funny about the idea that John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is so much better at his job (that is, killing people) than everyone around him that he has the time to reload his gun multiple times during any given fight. It’s not that he’s not capable of doing it quickly — he’s John freakin’ Wick, he could do this in his sleep — but that it puts distinct pauses in the action that would be inconceivable in any other movie. Each time, a few seconds pass as he jams new bullets into his pistol and his opponents simply stagger around him. He doesn’t have to rush! He’s just that good! John Wick is a legendary assassin, also known as the Baba Yaga. Though he managed to get out of the game for the sake of his wife, he’s gotten back in after her death thanks to a few thugs who didn’t know who they were messing with. John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum, directed by Chad Stahelski, begins with Wick’s … [Read more...] about In the third John Wick movie, everybody loves Keanu Reeves
