I've got a singleton set up with a overarching Managers class that has references to each of my other managers classes. I also have a state machine set up that handles changing scenes between the Main Menu, the Gameplay, and the Game Over scene. These are also the corresponding states. I'm using DontDestroyOnLoad on the Managers class so all that stuff should stay put between scenes. The problem I'm running into however is that when it switches from the MainMenu to the Gameplay state, it apparently loses the reference to the GameManager object. The error I get pops when I try to hit the GameManager for the second time when the game tries to change from Gameplay state to the Gameover state. It says it has been deleted, but if I put a debug.Log in the GameManager class's update function, it is still firing. I have tried to put a method in the Managers class that I could call to reassign it after the new level is loaded, but that doesn't seem to work. I've pretty much tried … [Read more...] about Managers class losing reference to Game Manager when changing scene in Unity

Super Mario Party shines in low-key week for Switch eShop
It’s a party up in Nintendo Switch eShop this week, thanks to Mario Party’s first Nintendo Switch game. Super Mario Party is the biggest name in a lineup that consists of few in-demand titles, although it’s actually not the only party game hitting the storefront. Fun fact: There are three different “parties” on the eShop as part of this latest update. We’ve got Hardway Party, which is a bridge-building party for cars. It’s an arcade racing game, based on its description, although there are also missions involving dragons and zombies. This sounds like a party with a certain kind of attendee in mind. If that’s not your type of party — and no party is, in fact — there’s also Party Crashers, which is ... also a racing game. Apparently this is actually the week of vehicular hangouts, since this is a game where tracks are foiled by bananas and cars destroy each other on the track. For those of us who like a more traditional … [Read more...] about Super Mario Party shines in low-key week for Switch eShop
The Endless Mission defies exact genre but you can change gravity in it
The Endless Mission is a game that is all games. Or none. It’s going to be annoying to write about, because when we put stuff on the website we have to tick a little box to associate the article with a genre, and the eventual plan for The Endless Mission is: all of them. For now it’s got platformer, RTS, and racer. It’s not that the different genres are obviously crowbarred in next to one another, like when an FPS has a driving bit that will clearly never show up again. When the game starts you’re in a huge white building in a forest. Inside are portals to the different genres. You just walk through and start playing a platformer. But that’s not the most fun bit. The most fun bit is that, at any point, you can pause the game, and alter the key elements of it – you can even go in and change bits of code, within certain parameters. Let me provide some much needed context by way of the platformer. The demo platformer level is clearly drawing from … [Read more...] about The Endless Mission defies exact genre but you can change gravity in it

Battle Changes Shown in New Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia Video
Since Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia is set in 9th century Britain, it would make sense for the warfare style to reflect that of the era. Creative Assembly, the developers of the game, felt this way too. This week, Total War’s YouTube channel released a video featuring some of the changes players can expect to see on the battlefield with a couple focusing on those that keep it faithful to its time period. The changes highlighted in the video include shield based warfare and cavalry combat to reflect the game era’s battle style. In addition, critical hits are now available during battle for both melee and missile attacks. Godmode makes a return, and there have been changes to settlements as well. It was recently announced that the release date of Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia will be pushed back to May 3rd. The game will be available for PC. You can check out the video explaining each of the changes listed in battle … [Read more...] about Battle Changes Shown in New Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia Video
