Someone should make a game about: clouds

· December 11, 2019 ·

Hello, and welcome to our new series which picks out interesting things that we'd love someone to make a game about. This isn't a chance for us to pretend we're game designers, more an opportunity to celebrate the range of subjects games can tackle and the sorts of things that seem filled with glorious gamey promise. Check out our 'Someone should make a game about' archive for all our pieces so far. On a train, that big window next to the double seat can become a cinema, and the film is always the same: clouds. Clouds! Huge, towering clumps, or frail, fretful twists and twills. The train is the only place I seem to notice clouds with any regularity. My phone photo folders are full of the things, always shaping the sky, always snapped from the window of a train. We take them for granted. "If a glorious sunset of Altocumulus clouds were to spread across the heavens only once in a generation, it would surely be amongst the principal legends of our time," writes Gavin Pretor-Pinney in the … [Read more...] about Someone should make a game about: clouds

Local Co-op for Halo on PC: answers at last

· December 11, 2019 ·

Home • An extremely serious article Nate Crowley Reviews Editor 11th December 2019 / 9:00AM Ever since the Master Chief Collection was announced for PC back in March, fans have been clamouring for the Xbox version’s classic split screen local co-op to be included in the PC port. But so far, it seems they’ve had no luck. In a Reddit AMA at the time, 343 Industries’ community director Brian “ske7ch” Jarrard said it was a “tricky” issue, and that 343 was still “looking at what can be supported”. Eight months later, the collection’s roll-out on PC has started with Halo: Reach – but there’s no split screen to be seen. Luckily, however, I can reveal that Rock Paper Shotgun has secured answers to the local co-op question at last. Or at least, the answers to a local Co-op question. By which I mean, I can tell you how all the main characters in the Halo series would handle a trip to the local branch of … [Read more...] about Local Co-op for Halo on PC: answers at last

Wot I Think (Of The Open Beta): Hearthstone

· January 31, 2014 ·

Home • PC Game Reviews • Hearthstone • 114 Cards Right Rich Stanton Contributor 31st January 2014 / 9:00PM Every time Hearthstone launches the first thing you see is a box. The camera lingers on the bevelled edges of the lid, gaining height before tilting to settle on a top-down view. The inset stone glows with restive energy, clunks backwards and spins – in a surprise twist, the lid doesn’t flip open but splits vertically. Hearthstone‘s roots are in the real-world, and a big part of the joy in card games is the physical pleasure of playing with them. This lovingly-crafted box is the opening volley in answering one question; can Blizzard make a digital card game that feels like a real one?sign up here) – though as a free-to-play game the distinction between this and a full release is somewhat subtle. It’s fair to say, at the least, that Hearthstone today is the functionally complete product, with all nine of its heroes … [Read more...] about Wot I Think (Of The Open Beta): Hearthstone

Someone Has Baked The Perfect Baby Yoda Holiday Pie

· December 11, 2019 ·

By Nicole Drum - December 11, 2019 01:44 am EST Share 0 Comments 0 It's been almost a month since Disney+ launched, giving users not just Star Wars: The Mandalorian but quite possibly the most adorable creature the internet will ever see. We're talking about Baby Yoda, of course and fans still can't get enough of the adorable character. That means we've seen all sorts of memes and fan art, but now we're seeing something that really takes the cake -- er, pie. That's right, a very talented pie maker has turned Baby Yoda into a holiday-themed pastry wonder and it's something that's almost too perfect to eat. As was spotted on Twitter, pie artist Jessica Clark-Bojin (@ThePieous) has created a stunning Baby Yoda pie featuring the beloved creature front and center wearing a darling Santa hat and sipping on not soup, but a festive holiday drink -- looks like hot chocolate -- complete with little candy cane. It's absolutely adorable and while the pie itself looks … [Read more...] about Someone Has Baked The Perfect Baby Yoda Holiday Pie

Have You Played… Unseen Diplomacy?

· December 11, 2019 ·

Home • Unseen Diplomacy • I spy Matt Cox Staff Writer 11th December 2019 / 7:30AM Do you want to feel like James Bond? I bet you want to feel like James Bond. The James Bond who spends all his time crawling through vents and blocking laser beams with key cards. Here, watch some of Unseen Diplomacy, featuring a man using a broom to break into the lair of an evil corporation before it can delete the internet. I played it yonks ago, back when I was a student with enough spare time and enthusiasm to occasionally lug my PC into an unused lecture theatre for VR parties. The best kind of party. They were a chance to try out VR games ill-suited to my bedroom, without desks to charge into and mantelpieces to crack your head on. The lack of those was absolutely vital for Unseen Diplomacy, where you need to reach into every nook and cranny of a clean 2×2 metre area. It needs a lot of space, but if you can manage that then those 2×2 metres feel infinite. You … [Read more...] about Have You Played… Unseen Diplomacy?
