Earlier this week we found out that Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards will feature more than 10 new game announcements. Now, we know that a game by Obsidian Entertainment will be among the lineup. If you head to Obsidian Entertainment’s official website, you’ll be met with a special message that has a countdown, with the words “Live December 6th. At The Game Awards.” The message comes with special art and a retro, sci-fi aesthetic, which gives some serious Fallout and Bioshock vibes. One of the messages is brought to us by the fictional “Spacer’s Choice” which seems to confirm some sort of space setting. Although Obsidian was recently acquired by Microsoft, this is not their first project together. The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley tweeted that this game is the product of a partnership between Obsidian and Take-Two’s indie-focused publisher “Private Division.” As we found out last year when the Obsidian and Private … [Read more...] about Obsidian Entertainment’s New Game to be Revealed at The Game Awards

League of Legends is getting a new game mode that might borrow from battle royale
League of Legends is getting a new game mode, Nexus Blitz, as part of a new Experimental Modes programme, and it might borrow one or two things from that other genre dominated by a brightly-coloured free-to-play game, battle royale. Developer Riot Games announced Experimental Modes - and the first one, Nexus Blitz - in a forum post last night, where they explained their intent for them to pop up at a rate of about "one or two a year" and bring a bit of satisfaction for those out for a faster moving game. The aim is that they'll release in "early access" form, where they're then "aggressively patched" on live servers, before hopefully moving into a permanent place in the game - like Summoners Rift and ARAM are now, and the sorely-missed Dominion mode once was. Nexus Blitz itself is described as being made "for those of you seeking fresh, exciting moments and low-pressure fun. It's a fast-paced mode - around 15 minutes in our internal tests - that emphasizes exciting and surprising … [Read more...] about League of Legends is getting a new game mode that might borrow from battle royale
Diablo job listing whets fans’ appetite for new game
A job opening posted by Blizzard on its official website seeks a developer for an “unannounced Diablo project,” kicking up anticipation among that game’s faithful that something new is on the way. The listing is rather specific that Blizzard needs a dungeon artist “to build atmospheric dungeons.” Who knows what Blizzard is working on, whether it’s a sequel, expansion or a spinoff, but this doesn’t sound like a mobile game or similar derivative. We’ve emailed Blizzard to ask for more information but it’s unlikely they would up and confirm a new game based off a job listing alone. The project could be years from completion, anyway. It’s also important to remember that Blizzard lists jobs for this franchise with some frequency, although not always so specifically. In 2016 they were looking for a new game director for the franchise to “lead the Diablo series into the future.” And in 2015, Blizzard listed an opening for … [Read more...] about Diablo job listing whets fans’ appetite for new game
Bungie moves to reassure Destiny fans after securing $100m for new game
Bungie has received over $100m as part of an investment from a Chinese publisher to build a new game. The Destiny developer received the investment from NetEase, which operates Blizzard games such as World of Warcraft, StarCraft 2 and Overwatch in mainland China. NetEase now has a minority stake in Bungie and a seat on its board of directors, but insisted the developer will continue to operate independently. "Today, we're excited to announce that we've entered into a new partnership with NetEase to help us explore new directions," reads Bungie's statement. "With their industry expertise, they'll empower us to build new worlds and invite players, new and old, to join us there. They'll help us support separate teams inside Bungie to bring our newest ambitions to life." NetEase said Bungie "will begin the creation of new worlds" under chief creative officer and Bungie founder Jason Jones. The deal does sound at least in part about bringing new Bungie games to the Chinese market, as well … [Read more...] about Bungie moves to reassure Destiny fans after securing $100m for new game
Blizzard: A proper Overwatch campaign would be “like making a brand new game”
"That's a significant amount of work." Overwatch's newest mission 'Retribution' is a four-player co-op romp through one of the key moments in the game's lore: the demise of Gabriel 'Reaper' Reyes and his covert group, Blackwatch.Together with Uprising, this mission is being released today as part of the Overwatch Archives, a month-long event in which players can get a taste of what Blizzard can offer in terms of Overwatch PvE content. But some players want more than that. A lot more. How likely is it that we'll see a fully-fledged Overwatch campaign? One that offers multiple missions, with a progression system and a more involved story arc.We spoke with the Overwatch team to find out. "When we conceived of Overwatch, it was really intended to be a PvP experience," game director Jeff Kaplan told Eurogamer. "I like to think that the core of our audience and we have a lot of players, over 35 million players, are here because they love the PvP experience that we're … [Read more...] about Blizzard: A proper Overwatch campaign would be “like making a brand new game”
