Thymesia: Best Plague Weapons
Thymesia eschews a traditional magic system in favor of its plague weapon mechanic, which allows you to absorb weapons from your enemies and use them in retaliation. Early in the game, you also unlock the ability to choose a plague weapon to equip and use at will--provided you have enough energy to do so. By farming enemies who wield the weapons, you can earn skill shards to level up your plague weapons even further, making you into a force to be reckoned with. In this guide, we'll list five of the best plague weapons you can carry with you to aid in battle, with a focus on early to mid-game options. Handaxe The Handaxe is excellent for dishing out huge wound damage, and it can stagger enemies for a short while. It casts fairly fast and has solid forward momentum to ensure that you land your hits, and it can be leveled quite easily because there are tons of enemies who wield it. Once you've leveled it up, not only will its energy cost go down quite a bit, but you'll also gain the … [Read more...] about Thymesia: Best Plague Weapons
Xbox Is Expanding Its Accessibility Programs In Gaming
Xbox has announced plans to expand its gaming accessibility initiatives by building out the Xbox Accessibility Guidelines (XAGs) and launching a "platform-provided" program tapping gamers with disabilities to get their feedback on further improving accessibility. The XAGs, which were launched in January 2020, have new improvements that make them both easier to understand and implement for game developers. These improvements include adjusting the language to make it clearer to grasp, adding "scoping questions" to help developers identify specific elements, and updating goals to make them easier to understand. Xbox is also bolstering its partnership with the Gaming & Disability Community to ensure that disabled gamers have their voices heard and limitations respected. Players with disabilities will be included in the accessibility testing programs. This collaboration will see games tested against the XAGs by members of the disabled games community to request and suggest more … [Read more...] about Xbox Is Expanding Its Accessibility Programs In Gaming

Another crypto game crashes and burns, won’t issue refunds to backers because there’s no money left
Audio player loading… Untamed Isles (opens in new tab) , a "monster-taming turn-based MMORPG" that found major success on Kickstarter, has been put "on hiatus" because of the crypto crash (opens in new tab) —Kickstarter backers are being told that there's no money left for refunds. The 2021 Kickstarter campaign (opens in new tab) for Untamed Isles rang up a remarkable $527,000 in backing—more than four times its initial goal. It promised a fully open world with "unique areas for friends to gather, practice PVP, trade, breed monsters, clear dungeons, and play through the story of untamed isles socially with open voice proximity communications." It also boasted a "play to earn" model in partnership with Direwolf, which would enable most of the items and all of the monsters in the game to be "tokenized" and bought, sold, or traded in various marketplaces or the in-game auction house. Unfortunately, the commitment to crypto is where it all went wrong. … [Read more...] about Another crypto game crashes and burns, won’t issue refunds to backers because there’s no money left
Game immediately review bombed on Steam after crypto company buys it
Audio player loading… Players of free-to-play autobattler Storybook Brawl are suddenly calling for it to be booted off Steam, but not because of a controversial balance change or a scandalous personal allegation. Storybook Brawl is the subject of a very 2022 happening: a cryptocurrency company bought it. Cryptocurrency exchange FTX US announced last week that it had acquired Storybook Brawl developer Good Luck Games, and the new owner isn't shy about its intentions. The acquisition is an "opportunity to be the vanguard for the ethical integration of gaming and crypto transactions," according to FTX. In a video (opens in new tab) posted after the announcement, Good Luck Games founder Matt Place said that the acquisition means increased funding for the studio, but that he doesn't know yet exactly how blockchain technology will be integrated into Storybook Brawl, except that it will be "ethical" and "create fun for players." A lot of those players are not buying either … [Read more...] about Game immediately review bombed on Steam after crypto company buys it
Wing Commander IV: Remastered revitalizes a PC gaming classic
Audio player loading… Wing Commander 4 was a cutting-edge blend of FMV and space-sim action when it debuted in 1996, but—like most graphically-intensive videogames from that era—it hasn't aged particularly well. But a fan-made project aims to give it a much-needed facelift, with a new engine, assets, and upscaled cutscenes. "Gaming has moved on significantly over the last few decades and, while hugely impressive at the time, the game engine has perhaps not aged quite as gracefully," the Wing Commander 4: The Price of Freedom – Remastered (opens in new tab) website explains. "This project is a fan attempt to allow owners of Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom to enjoy a more modern experience by loading the files from the original game into a new engine, complete with specially created, high definition assets." To my eyes, though, the real magic is in the FMV scenes. Generally speaking, mid-'90s FMV looks terrible these days, and that's definitely the case with … [Read more...] about Wing Commander IV: Remastered revitalizes a PC gaming classic
Cult Of The Lamb Followers Wanting To Eat Poop Is (Unfortunately) Scientifically Accurate
Cult of the Lamb tasks you with establishing a sect of devoted followers, and before you can start breaking down their will with hallucinogenic mushrooms and ritual sacrifices, you'll have to cater to some of their demands. One such request comes from a hungry follower, who wants you to prepare them a steaming hot bowl of poop, a menu option that you're able to regularly serve to your disciples. It's not just gross; it's also scientifically accurate. As University of Missouri assistant research professor Ashley Conway noted--and backed up by various studies --the animal species such as donkeys, horses, and rabbits "regularly engage in coprophagy" so that they can reclaim vital nutrients that their digestive systems may have missed the first time. Okay, but this is an excellent opportunity to remind folks that monogastric hindgut fermenting species like donkeys, horses and rabbits regularly engage in coprophagy (eating their poo nuggets) to recapture important nutrients their … [Read more...] about Cult Of The Lamb Followers Wanting To Eat Poop Is (Unfortunately) Scientifically Accurate
Final Fantasy XIV Director Wants To Make “One More MMORPG From Scratch” Before He Dies
Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida wants to make one more MMORPG "from scratch" before he dies. "I am a game designer, so I always have several ideas for games," Yoshida said in a recent interview with Inverse . "I can't talk about them here, but I think that goes for any game designer. I am the kind of person who's happy as long as they can make games, so while there isn't anything in particular, I occasionally think that I would like to make one more MMORPG title, from scratch, before I die." Although Yoshida, affectionately referred to as Yoshi-P by the Final Fantasy XIV community, didn't go into specifics on what kinds of ideas he would like to see in a new MMORPG (or whether it would be a Final Fantasy-branded project or not) he did spend the interview imagining what the future of both MMOs and online games in general could look like. Quantum computing, for example, could have major effects on the genre and video games in general in the next five to 10 years, … [Read more...] about Final Fantasy XIV Director Wants To Make “One More MMORPG From Scratch” Before He Dies
Nintendo Was Making A Universal Controller That Also Worked On PlayStation And Xbox
Nintendo was working on a universal controller that would work across Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms, former executive Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed. He told Inverse that Nintendo was making this controller in 2019 after Xbox came out with its own Xbox Adaptive Controller . Fils-Aime said Nintendo thought of the Xbox Adaptive Controller as a "jumping-off point to create something that would be platform-agnostic and adaptable by any consumer." Fils-Aime said, "Imagine an adaptive controller that you could play with your latest Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo platform. That's what we were working on three years ago." The Xbox Adaptive Controller was designed for people with limited mobility that takes into consideration the needs of gamers who may not be able to hold a controller for a long time or reach all the triggers and buttons. File-Aime left Nintendo in 2019 and doesn't know if this project is still in the works, but he hopes it is. "I'm not sure if it … [Read more...] about Nintendo Was Making A Universal Controller That Also Worked On PlayStation And Xbox
