The new Raid movie isn't strictly a remake, director Patrick Hughes has said. The upcoming film will be set in Philadelphia's "Badlands," and will follow a DEA task force undercover on the hunt for the city's kingpin. "It's not a remake as such, it's a reimagining and it's taking what was so incredibly crazy with that hook. It's a very nitty-gritty, real world in that. Stepping into the straight action-thriller, but it's on that saga level and that's a project that I'm really, really excited about," Hughes told ComicBook.com (opens in new tab) . "There's not too much I'm allowed to say, but it is something where we're really... I'm excited because I have come off a big run of doing action comedies and I love that genre and I'm certainly going to be working [in] it again in the future, but for now, I've got two projects and the other's a big action, sci-fi, horror, thriller, survival, epic movie," he continued. "There are just a couple of different genres I want to step into … [Read more...] about New The Raid movie is a “reimagining” of the original, not a remake

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series proves Darth Vader needs his own Disney Plus show
Warning: Spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi ahead! Turn back now if you haven't seen the entire series! Obi-Wan Kenobi has proved once and for all that Darth Vader deserves his own spin-off show. Now, hear me out, you might be thinking that the Skywalker Saga already contains more than enough Vader, but – as the Obi-Wan show has proved – there's always more story to tell. In fact, Obi-Wan Kenobi had some of the best Darth Vader scenes ever. Whether the Sith Lord was tearing transports from the sky , dragging Obi-Wan through flames , or simply opening his eyes in a bacta tank , the internet could not get enough. We've never seen Vader quite like this before: even in Rogue One , which saw him slice through countless Rebels on a quest to recapture the Death Star plans, he wasn't quite as terrifying as the Vader we saw slaughtering his way through a village or besting a vengeful Reva using only the Force. Unleashing Vader in his own spin-off would let us see even … [Read more...] about The Obi-Wan Kenobi series proves Darth Vader needs his own Disney Plus show

The biggest showcases of E3 2022 have now drawn to a close. And while we've been treated to dozens of pretty cinematic trailers, promising gameplay reveals, remakes and reworkings over the last several days – not least during the Xbox and Bethesda Games event, and Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest – there are plenty of games that, for one reason or another, failed to peak their heads above the development trenches. How Elden Ring, The Hobbit, and Guitar Hero are shaping Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, the upcoming Soulslike from A44 Games, is a melting pot of ideas and inspirations. For one, it's the indirect follow-up to the developer's 2018 action role-player Ashen – a thoughtful slant on the genre which, whilst far from revolutionary, is a wonderful example of the formula executed well. The New Zealand outfit's next outing is also a Soulslike game, built in the looming shadow of Elden Ring – the biggest, most ambitious project Dark Souls mastermind FromSoftware has ever crafted, one which has undoubtedly set a new standard for other genre games to be compared against. And, in a previous life, members of the A44 Games team worked at Weta Digital, a special effects studio who helped bring the fantastical beasts of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit film series to life. Which is to say: the DNA that underwrites Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is multifaceted. And while creating a straight Ashen sequel might have an easier proposition for the developer's … [Read more...] about How Elden Ring, The Hobbit, and Guitar Hero are shaping Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn
Venom goes back to his glory days in Lethal Protector
Prepare for a 'Venom: Year One' style story in 2022, from the character's co-creator David Michelinie, called Venom: Lethal Protector (opens in new tab) . (Yes, that's right - the same name the first Venom (opens in new tab) series in 1993 went by - also written by Michelinie.) Working with artist Ivan Fiorelli, Michelinie is turning back the clock to when Eddie Brock was a despondent newspaper reporter first crossing paths with the symbiote that would become Venom. (opens in new tab) "Getting to do a multi-issue story with the original Venom was like sitting down to dinner with an old friend - who wants to eat your brain for dessert!” Michelinie says in the announcement. "It was both fun and exciting, and I hope people enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it." According to Marvel, Venom: Lethal Protector isn't just a trip down memory lane, but a hint at "what's to come in his future!" Michelinie and Todd McFarlane created Venom in the … [Read more...] about Venom goes back to his glory days in Lethal Protector
