Fallout 76, Bethesda’s prequel to the post-apocalyptic Fallout series, will be released on Nov. 14. It’s a very ambitious game; most notably, it will be Bethesda Game Studios’ first online multiplayer game, with no human NPCs to assign quests or explain the narrative. Plus, the open world map is huge — four times larger than in Fallout 4. Bethesda is running beta sessions with access to the full game for those who pre-ordered Fallout 76, with the express intent of finding issues within that ambitious world. The beta is actually framed as an acronym, B.E.T.A., as in “break-it early test application”. The last beta session will be on Nov. 8. If you want to play the beta before launch you will definitely need to pre-order immediately, but that’s the only perk you’ll get with the standard edition. If you’re looking for some exclusive in-game items or physical collectibles, Bethesda is releasing two special editions. Here’s … [Read more...] about Which edition of Fallout 76 should you buy?

Red Dead Redemption 2, the long-awaited sequel to Rockstar’s 2010 western game, is going to be huge. And I mean in terms of file size. Rockstar confirmed that the game will take up 99 GB of storage on PlayStation 4 and 107 GB on Xbox One. With a huge download like that, there’s clearly a lot to do and see in this game, and that’s not including the multiplayer mode, Red Dead Online, launching as a public beta in November. Red Dead Redemption 2 special editions add even more missions, gear and loot (both in-game and physical). Pre-orders also come with exclusive content, plus in-game currency for Rockstar’s biggest property, Grand Theft Auto 5. There’s so much content available in the base game that the standard edition is probably fine for most players. A breakdown of what’s included in each edition is listed below. (If you do end up buying one of the special editions, I’d recommend the physical version, because it comes with a cool … [Read more...] about Which edition of Red Dead Redemption 2 should you buy?
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is finally, officially here and it’s packed with new features, including a battle royale mode and a new Zombies storyline. If you haven’t picked up the latest in the massive Call of Duty franchise, figuring out which edition to buy is the first step. Just about every AAA game launches with multiple editions packing on more than just the basic game. Figuring out which one to buy can be a frustrating and confusing experience. Most of it comes down to personal preference and gaming style — you probably already know if you want a physical or digital copy — but the addition of exclusive skins, season passes and bonus currency makes it trickier. A $60 (or more) game is an investment, and it’s hard to figure out how to get the most bang for your buck. Granted, the stakes are a little lower with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 editions. Unlike Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, there isn’t any exclusive in-game content (other than … [Read more...] about Which edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 should you buy?
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the latest entry in the long-running franchise, lives up to its name. It’s an epic in every sense of the word, with family drama, political intrigue and yes, lots of grinding. Unless you shell out for some boosts and buffs, that is. Microtransactions in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey have been a huge topic of debate, both in the Polygon newsroom and on the internet at large. To complicate matters even further, many of the skins and boosts available via microtransactions are included with different editions of the game. When I tried to figure out which version to buy, I was confused and frustrated by the whole thing. It turned buying a game I was excited about into a chore. I ended up just buying the base game and paying for a permanent XP boost in the in-game store, which may lose me money in the long run if I decide to pick up any DLC down the road. For those who may be facing similar indecision paralysis, we’ve broken down the differences … [Read more...] about Which edition of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey should you buy?
Bethesda is doing something completely new with Fallout series by turning the title into an MMO with the release of Fallout 76 on November 14. Going down the multiplayer route is a big change for the series, and while it isn't a traditional Fallout game as we know it, it incorporates settlements, crafting, and character customisation, and might just be your cup of tea, despite the new direction, with servers limited to dozens of players, rather than hundreds and assurances from Bethesda's Pete Hines that Fallout 76 will cater to as much to players looking for a single-player experience as it does for multiplayer fiends. There are a ton of different editions to choose from, and with retailers offering their own exclusives, it can be tricky deciding where to pre-order your copy, but we've got you covered with all of the different editions along with the various bells and whistles they come with. Technically, there are only three editions; Standard, Tricentennial, and the Power … [Read more...] about Where to buy Fallout 76 cheap, and details on Special Edition pre-orders
