I've read The Wolves of Willoughby Chase - I don't need any reminders! How about a STALKER battle royale game? There's one in development. It's called Fear the Wolves and it's made by Vostok Games, the studio formed from the ashes of STALKER developer GSC. Fear the Wolves takes place, like STALKER, in the creepy radiation-blasted wasteland of Chernobyl. It's a 100-player deathmatch where you can play lone wolf or in squads - but players won't be the only enemy. Deadly anomalies constantly threaten your health, mitigated somewhat by protective gear found while exploring. Of more pressing danger, however, will be the mutated forms lurking in the shadows... Fear the Wolves will be released at some point this year on PC and consoles - presumably much later this year. There'll be an early access phase on PC beforehand. Vostok Games was formed in 2012 when STALKER 2 collapsed and GSC effectively fell apart. The studio set to work on a spiritual successor to STALKER called Survarium, which … [Read more...] about Former STALKER team announces Chernobyl-set battle royale game
Battle royale game
The battle royale game mode isn't exactly new, but its current mainstream spotlight can be attributed to the virality of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. After it sold tens of millions of copies on Steam during its early access period alone, there was bound to be a wave of games trying to capitalize on the genre's exploding popularity. As of now, though, Fortnite: Battle Royale is the frontrunner in challenging PUBG's dominance. And while many have dubbed Fortnite's rendition a PUBG clone, there are just as many stark differences as there are similarities between the two.A drastic contrast in presentation will hit you first. PUBG has a realistic, military-inspired look that's layered on top of the already nerve-racking concept. Fortnite looks like a cartoon; it's bright, colorful, and animated in a way that takes the edge off the imposing battle royale mode. Oddly enough, both games use Epic's Unreal Engine 4 despite the divergent graphical styles. These games were also born out of … [Read more...] about PUBG Vs. When you're trapped on an island with danger around every corner, you'll have to use anything at your disposal to survive. Outpost Games' upcoming battle royale game SOS takes this thinking to heart, but adds in some rather unorthodox twists that asks players--or "performers," as the developers say--to go out of their comfort zone. Taking part in a life-or-death game on a reality TV show, 16 performers, along with some dangerous infected creatures, have to fight to survive, and only a few will make it out alive. While there's plenty of guns and axes to find, the best weapons you'll use are your very own words.Spending some time with a closed-alpha build of the game ahead of its closed-beta, we had the chance to talk with CEO of Outpost Games Wright Bagwell and creative director Ian Milham about their ambitious take on the now popular Battle Royale sub-genre--and what strange situations it'll force players into.As a survival game, you'll have to manage your meager resources while … [Read more...] about Battle Royale Game SOS Puts Players In The Spotlight For A Live Audience
Earlier this week we posted a survey asking you to help us create the perfect battle royale game. We got 4,958 responses, wow! A big thank you to everyone who took our survey. Let's take a look at the results and see what we've got before the final circle closes in. Obviously, we need a great name for our game to kick things off, and we provided a list of words for you to choose from that could combine into an evocative and descriptive name. Naturally, we're throwing a colon in there: it ain't a cool game unless it's something colon something else. Picking the top five words and combining them worked pretty well when you helped us build the perfect FPS, Rising Dark Shadow: Apocalypse Protocol, so we did the same with our BR game. Your top five choices are Royale, Battle, Endgame, Arena, and Final, and after a little reshuffling we get: Final Battle Arena: Endgame Royale We could also go with Battle Royale Arena: Final Endgame, which I'm partial to since 'Final Endgame' is so … [Read more...] about How to build the perfect battle royale game
Anyone who has spent time in a battle royale game has found themselves in a situation where you run into a player who's managed to find a weapon before you have one yourself. You can run for it, you can try to punch them before they shoot you, or you can accept your fate and curse the loot spawn gods. Stand Out: VR Battle Royale gives you a new option: you can reach out with your virtual hands and snatch their gun away. And it's fucking hilarious. This exact scenario happened to me today when I was trying Stand Out for the first time, only I was the guy with the gun. I heard another player nearby and was searching the building for him, and found him hiding on all fours under a table (this being VR, this means he was quite literally on all fours on his real floor). Cute. I crouched down next to the table and pointed my gun at him, but before I could shoot he grabbed it out of my hands. What resulted was a ridiculous VR tussle over the gun as we both grabbed it out of each other's … [Read more...] about You can grab guns out of people’s hands in this VR battle royale game, and it’s hilarious
