The Sonic the Hedgehog movie release date has been pushed forward by a whole week, meaning the hyped-up live-action Hollywood film based on Sega’s iconic blue hedgehog will now arrive in early November. Rumors of a Sonic the Hedgehog movie have circulated for practically as long as the blue blur has existed. Sonic and his pal have graced the silver screen with plenty of cartoons in the past, but this will be their first shot at a true live-action Hollywood event. Sony Pictures Interactive bought up the rights to distribute a movie based on the iconic video game character back in 2013, yet confirmation of plans to produce such a film were only made official a year later with news that it would be a live-action/CGI hybrid flick. Things went quiet for a time, as they usually do when firms attempt to make a movie based on a video game, but early 2016 saw Sega’s CEO reassure fans that it was on track to make a 2018 debut. And it will. Despite swapping over to Paramount Pictures … [Read more...] about The Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Release Date Has Changed

Surrounded by body parts in a former aluminum warehouse on the outskirts of Bristol, in the southwest of England, Nigel Leach enthusiastically hands me an arm. "Feel that," he says, as I gingerly pinch the disembodied limb.Rather than a grisly crime scene, I'm on a tour of the puppet-making department at Academy Award-winning Aardman Studios. The tiny, finger-sized bicep in my hands, which is made entirely of silicon, belongs to one of the characters from "Early Man," the latest animated stop-motion feature from "Wallace and Gromit" creator Nick Park."Nick likes the thumby texture," explains Leach, a team leader in the puppet-making department, gesturing to the silicon, which looks like clay and hides a wire armature underneath. "It means that the animator can move the arm and not have to sculpt every single stage in the plasticine.""Early Man" is Park's first directorial feature since 2005's "Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" and a wholly original concept. He describes … [Read more...] about ‘Early Man’ review: ‘Gromit’ creator returns to animation
A fake trailer for a movie based on Friends has taken over Facebook feeds and YouTube’s trending section in the last week, causing a stir among hopeful fans and skeptics. The trailer, so obviously fake, continues to circulate at a pretty staggering rate, leading some people to ask why there’s such a hubbub about a fan-made trailer for a movie that’s never going to happen. The bigger question, however, is why does this keep happening on an almost annual basis? A well-done fake trailer for a feature-length Friends movie that could almost be believed as real first appeared on YouTube in 2013. It was created by a YouTube user named cheliara and published on Sept. 23, 2013. The video amassed just under 300,000 views in the last four years; not a small number by any means, but not overly successful either. Cheliara mentioned in the video’s description that it was a project she made for class. This may not seem important, but it’s actually pretty crucial. … [Read more...] about Why do people keep falling for the same fake Friends movie trailer on YouTube?
Females on film While film school classes and incensed critics continue to debate the lack of women in film, female actresses are fighting the good fight on the silver screen itself. Alas, not in anywhere near the numbers needed - provided things were a little bit fairer, of course - or that woman over the age of 40 didn't suddenly become a movie exec's idea of nightmare kryptonite.Over the years, these actresses have been asked to play any number of damsels, dames, nagging housewives, ditzy girlfriends and occasionally (just occasionally) an interesting and nuanced character. This list celebrates the latter, looking at the very best female creations in the history of cinema. How a game about hiding in a tiny room waiting to be attacked by animal-tronic terrors will work as a movie is yet to be seen, but if anyone can do it, it's the fine folks in Hollywood.Though a movie based on a game isn't anything new, in a sea of Tomb Raiders and Resident Evils, it's rare to see a small-scale indie title be offered the silver-screen treatment. That got us wondering what other indie games would make good films and what directors would make them shine. And oh boy, did we have a lot of thoughts. Here you'll find those very thoughts on what indie games deserve their own movies and the film-focused minds that would treat them right.
