HTC has announced the winners of its third annual Viveport Developer Awards, celebrating new games included in its VR subscription service, Viveport. The extremely diverse selection of winners were announced across four categories last night at the company’s GDC 2019 showcase. In a blog post issued earlier today, HTC said that the awards aimed to “celebrate VR’s most captivating and original titles” across its four categories – entertainment, arts & culture, arcade, and education. Viveport president Rikard Steiber said that “this year’s winner highlight the high caliber of VR content now available across popular genres.” Most notable of the winners is archery game Apex Construct, which took first place in the Entertainment category. Apple has unveiled its editorial selections for the best apps of the year across its various devices, including game selections on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. They include some pretty well known names, particularly in the mobile space.Apple's iPhone Game of the Year is Donut County, the wondrously weird game that riffs on the legacy of Katamari Damacy. Rather than grow an ever-larger ball of junk, though, you control a growing hole that swallows up everything around it. The iPad Game of the Year is Gorogoa, the image manipulation puzzler. On Mac, the award goes to The Gardens Between. Finally, the Apple TV Game of the Year is Alto's Odyssey.The announcement also included chart data for the most popular games of the last year. The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) has announced the nominees for its 21st D.I.C.E. Awards Winners of the D.I.C.E. Awards will be announced during a ceremony on Thursday, February 22 in Las Vegas and Horizon Zero Dawn leads the group with ten nominations, once of which is Game of the Year. Several other games were nominated in multiple categories. These include: Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus and Call of Duty WW2 have three nods each Gorogoa, PUBG, and Super Mario Odyssey with four nominations Cuphead, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy with five nominations each.
