By The Stratos GroupDesign by Katie Bush The Star Wars saga has seen incarnations in a remarkably broad number of gaming genres: even if we restrict ourselves to discussing console titles, there have been side-scrollers, arcade rail shooters, fighting games, first-person shooters, space-flight sims, and even a kart racer or two in there. Star Wars fans have had the opportunity to indulge their interest in a series of games whose breadth of scope and quality are unmatched by any other major license. The one exception to this smorgasbord of Star Wars genre-mining has been the role-playing game, which is odd, considering both that role-playing games have a deep fan base, and that Star Wars, with its richly imagined universe and compelling sci-fi archetypes, seems like a natural choice to be the basis for such a game. By Matthew RorieDesign by James Cheung Barely a year after the original Knights of the Old Republic came out for the Xbox, we have its sequel, Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords. As the subtitle implies, all isn’t exactly well in the Old Republic, as the Jedi have gone to ground in the hopes of luring out the Sith that have struck against them with impunity. It’s a dark time, as the unsteady Republic attempts to hold itself together in the wake of a civil war and domestic unrest. Into this shaky situation steps you, a former Jedi who has given up all attachment to the Force. The primary new features of KOTOR2 include: The ability to reach level 30. New Prestige classes for high-level play. An increased ability to influence your teammates and their relation to the Force. New Jedi Powers and Feats. In addition to all this, though, you’ll be treated to an engrossing (and long) story that can easily be played through many times. In fact, … [Read more...] about Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords Walkthrough
By: Matthew RorieDesign: Randall Montanari There have been various Mario RPGs on Nintendo systems since the original Super Mario RPG appeared on the SNES way back in 1996. With the advent of the Nintendo 64, though, the Mario RPG series was rechristened as Paper Mario, which featured Mario and his cohorts as flat, 2D entities inhabiting a world with more 3D elements than the previous generation of consoles allowed. The series continued with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door on the Gamecube, and is now again brought forward on a new console, as Super Paper Mario has arrived for the Wii. Those of you who expected the same type of gameplay as appeared in the previous iterations of Paper Mario, though, are going to be a bit surprised, as Super Paper Mario features gameplay more aligned with that of the old 2D Mario games like Super Mario Bros. or New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS. No longer are battles turn-based affairs; instead, you’ll have to bop enemies on the … [Read more...] about Super Paper Mario Walkthrough
