When you think about Assassin's Creed you probably think about clambering over rooftops, leaping off perilously high buildings into the protective embrace of a haybale, and also of sliding the cool metal of your hidden blade into countless pesky soldiers. But, there's a question as to whether Assassin's Creed Odyssey will feature the hidden blade. Heck, it may be the first game in the series not feature the hidden blade - although all the other things I've mentioned are definitely included. Now, that's not just me going slightly mad with early E3 fatigue. There are a few facts and theories behind my ponderings about the whereabouts of an Assassin's Creed Odyssey hidden blade.First of all, I've played it. And I've not only played it, I've poked and prodded its menus and there's no hidden blade there whatsoever. Not even a glint. Now, it could be a case that our hero or heroine hasn't yet received the blade at the point of the narrative I'm dropped in at (level 18 if you're … [Read more...] about Will Assassin’s Creed Odyssey actually feature the hidden blade?

The least interesting thing about Assassin's Creed Odyssey is its October 2018 release date, but the timing of another massive game in the series just 12 months after Assassin's Creed Origins will generate headlines regardless. Origins' success - its brilliant new characters and reworked RPG-lite focus - is something of a double-edged sword: these changes reinvigorated the series, but by taking an extra year of time to bed them in Ubisoft reinforced the feeling each installment could offer the same leaps forward, if only the publisher leant on its biggest franchise a little less. It's against this backdrop Odyssey has been detailed and its release date confirmed - but I'm confident, after more than three hours of gameplay, this year's installment answers those immediate questions."We started discussing the setting and what we wanted to do even before we were finished with Syndicate," Odyssey's creative director Marc-Alexis Côté tells me. It's a couple of weeks before E3 and … [Read more...] about Three hours with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

When we’re creating content, there’s stuff that’s “critical path” and stuff that’s “modular”. The critical path is the content the player must go through to finish the game, generally in a set order. When we’re working on critical path content, we can assume that players have completed prior elements on the critical path. Critical path content is also usually pretty high fidelity - since every player has to see it, we want it to be the highest quality we can make it.Modular content, on the other hand, is content that isn’t guaranteed to be played. We can let players skip it, do it early, or do it later in the game. We can gate it behind critical path elements, or we can let them do it whenever they want. Modular content is generally lower quality and cheaper because it’s optional. We want lots of it for players to do, and we hope it is fun, but it’s like a parade of tasty optional side dishes to accompany … [Read more...] about While playing Assassins Creed Origins i noticed…

Players will able to explore the newly-added Thebes region, discovering historical landmarks like the temples of Karnak and Luxor.
