SPOILT for choice? It's not easy to work out whether you should by the Xbox One X or PS4 Pro. Nevertheless, we've tested both devices, and have put together a detailed guide to help you decide which of these formidable 4K games consoles you should splash some cash on. Xbox One X vs PS4 Pro – what are they? These two machines are the most recent (and most expensive) games consoles from Microsoft and Sony. They're designed to play games in 4K resolution, which is a tough ask due to the immense computing power required. A 4K video has four times the number of pixels compared to standard Full HD video, so it's often much sharper and more detailed. If you've got a 4K television, you'll be able to use these two consoles to play video games in eye-watering 4K resolution. Xbox One X vs PS4 Pro design – which console looks better? The Xbox One X is a beautiful, boxy console that will look good in basically any living room. OUT with the old, and in with the new – Apple reveals new iPhones, and kills off some beloved models to make up for it. It's now no longer possible to buy the iPhone X, iPhone 6S or iPhone SE from Apple. You might think it's a good thing: after all, you now have the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR to fawn over. But this quiet culling of old iPhones is bad news. It means that there are no longer any iPhones for sale on the Apple Store with a headphone jack. Apple infamously killed off the headphone jack back in 2016 with the iPhone 7 – and the feature appears to now be gone for good. It was a controversial move at the time. The headphone jack has been a staple of gadgets for years, giving accessory makers a universal way to plug their gear into smartphones. There's no denying that 3.5mm headphone ports are a little outdated, but their widespread usage made them feel essential. Apple bucked the trend with the iPhone 7, instead asking users to plug their headphones into … [Read more...] about Apple just quietly killed off three iPhones – here’s why it’s BAD news
Lock and load Okay, this list was never going to be easy to compile. As one of the most popular, eclectic and influential gaming genres, nailing down the list of the best FPS titles to just 25 games is an almost ridiculous task. So to help narrow things down, we made some hard and fast rules. Read them before you move on.Number 1: The games have to be first person, and shooting has to be the predominant game system (hey, the clue is in "FPS"). So no Gears of War, and no Resident Evil 7. Number 2: This list is about currently best, not historically most important. To keep this list accessible, we're only including games you can play right now on current-generation consoles, instead of having to hunt down a PS2 at a garage sale. Have no fear: we haven’t forgotten the influential games that came before. They have their very own slide that explains their importance to the genre before we get started. See if you agree with our choices, as we progress toward revealing our number … [Read more...] about The 25 best FPS games to play right now
As Polygon's recent fifth birthday approached, we started thinking about what we could do to celebrate it. And what's more fun than ranking the 100 best games of all time? 500? So we did. We started by setting rules upfront. We asked everyone to vote based on innovation, polish and durability, rather than simply personal taste. We cut games released in 2017 to eliminate recency bias. And we left out sequels that we deemed too similar to the games that came before them. Then we voted, but we knew we had gaps in our knowledge on staff. So in addition to gathering votes from the Polygon team, we worked with a group of external and freelance writers to pull in their input: Kahlief Adams, Susan Arendt, Katherine Cross, Jon-Paul Dyson, Benj Edwards, Cara Ellison, JC Fletcher, Jenn Frank, Harold Goldberg, Janine Hawkins, Blake Hester, Laura Hudson, Henry Lowood, Jeremy Parish, Carolyn Petit, Andrea Rene, Jaz Rignall and Gary Whitta. Collecting all those votes together, we then combed through … [Read more...] about The 500 best games of all time: 500-401
