Remedy Entertainment, developers of upcoming Xbox One-exclusive Quantum Break, have discussed working on a sequel to Alan Wake after the game was released, but decided it "wouldn't work" at that time.As reported by DualShockers, the studio's creative director Sam Lake attended Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris and discussed the early stages of Alan Wake 2's development.Although Remedy worked on prototypes for the sequel, it felt it wasn't starting the project on the best foot."We tried to create Alan Wake 2 right after Alan Wake, and obviously you need the right partner. You need the right funding. You need the right concept," he said. "Alan Wake, in some ways, for Remedy is really valuable. It’s our own IP. We own Alan Wake. So maybe there’s also a bit of extra carefulness in making sure that all the elements are right for the success of a sequel. And it just didn’t seem like we were getting it started in the right way."We were looking into it. … [Read more...] about Alan Wake 2 Ideas Are Better Now, But Remedy Still Isn’t Committing to Sequel

After CG character animator Althea Suarez Gata exposed that she had worked on Alan Wake 2 in her credit of work, Remedy decided to roll with the punches and release a statement to Joystiq on the Alan Wake series: ...[It's] a shame that this news leaked before our official announcement which will of course include the visuals and information to support it. Well, now that the cat is out of the bag, we owe it to you and the fans to shed a little more light before we get the chance to officially show them what the guys have been up to. Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that yes, more Wake is coming! But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2. Source: A since-deleted previsualization artist's LinkedIn profile, captured by Xboxygen. What we heard: Remedy Entertainment spent some five years crafting psychological thriller Alan Wake for the Xbox 360. And while that extended development period was evident in Alan Wake's strong critical response, the game hasn't proven to be a sales blockbuster. Still, speculation has been rife that Alan Wake will see a sequel, especially considering Remedy has begun work on a new AAA Xbox 360 game. Now, new evidence for a return of Alan Wake has emerged, courtesy of an artist's LinkedIn resume. Captured by Xboxygen prior to being pulled, the LinkedIn resume showed that during a month spent at Halon Entertainment, the artist contributed to in-game cinematics for Alan Wake 2. The artist's resume offered no additional details on the project. However, it is worth noting that game companies often offload time-intensive cinematic work to for-hire agencies to speed up the completion of their … [Read more...] about Alan Wake 2 confirmed by previsualization artist?
Vivid nightmares are plotting a return to your dreams, or at least that's how it appears.Rather than Tweeting your standard Happy New Year post, Sam Lake, Creative Director and Writer at Remedy Entertainment, teased us all with the following: Happy new year, all you lovely people! In 2013 we can finally start revealing what we’ve been up to. Can hardly wait. It'll be cool. Back in June 2012 Sam Lake hinted at a sequel to Alan Wake 2, so chances are that Remedy isn't taking a chance with a new IP, especially following the unpredictably huge success of the series' first entry. As with many studios, Remedy is likely feeling antsy with what it has developed this far and will soon show it to the world. This time around, the announcement of a new game by the studio may be a highlight of the week for gamers of all flavors given Remedy's third-party status. The big question will be if the game will make the jump to the new generation of consoles, or if it will be yet another … [Read more...] about Remedy Creative Director Teases Upcoming Alan Wake 2 Announcement

It also includes footage of an internal prototype that hasn't been previously released. The 13-minute video establishes the premise of the game, in which a documentary filmmaker tackles the urban legend of Alan Wake and his disappearance. It also includes gameplay footage, with Alan Wake's signature flashlight/gun combo. The prototype highlights increased interactions between enemies and the environment, a way in which Remedy Entertainment hoped to create a more immersive experience. The company also introduced a new puzzle element in the prototype that requires players to use dark energy to change things, thus "making fiction reality."Development of Alan Wake 2 never made it past the prototype, and some of the elements from the video were eventually used in Alan Wake's American Nightmare.
