A shift is occurring in the games industry. It's called the Accessibility Revolution. The awareness and application of accessibility in games has grown exponentially. Developers around the world are making long overdue ventures into this hidden field to create an inclusive sanctuary in which everybody is able to play the games they want to play. The GA Conference EU 2018, held in Paris on the 22nd of October, brought passionate disabled gamers together with developers to discuss the present and the future state of accessibility. The first two GA Conferences had been held in the US. The shift to Paris for 2018 allowed speakers who couldn't make it across the Atlantic a chance to shine a light on the good work being done in Europe. I couldn't wait to go and see it all for myself. Accessibility is gaining traction in every part of the gaming industry, so developers are attending in order to keep up with best practices. The 2018 conference featured valuable educational talks covering a … [Read more...] about At the Games Accessibility Conference, 2018

Independent publisher Devolver Digital is back at E3 2018 for another night of game reveals and, presumably, wacky high concept antics for what it calls its Big Fancy Press Conference 2018. Devolver’s E3 event will stream live on Twitch on Sunday, June 10, starting at 8 p.m. PT/11 p.m. ET. This year, Devolver promises “real, actual game reveals” as well as “technological innovations from Devolver Labs, the research and development arm of Devolver Digital responsible for last year’s Earliest Access program and making ‘throwing money at the screen’ a valid form of payment.” In terms of real, actual game reveals, we’re probably going to hear more about Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass, maybe something about Metal Wolf Chaos and hopefully more about The Messenger. Whether Devolver Digital’s Big Fancy Press Conference 2018 will live up to last year’s extremely weird event — which you can read more about in our feature … [Read more...] about Watch Devolver Digital’s E3 2018 press conference
Devolver Digital, the outfit Steven once described as the industry's most eclectic studio, has confirmed its own dedicated showing at E3 2018. The aptly named Devolver Digital E3 Press Conference 2018 will take place on Sunday, June 10 at 8pm PST/June 11 at 4am BST. With a back catalogue that flaunts the super-crude Genital Jousting, the super-violent Hotline Miami and the super-weird Dropsy, Devolver is known for thinking outside of the box with the games it represents. Which may be why the following tweet carries a preemptive apology.Despite being forced to cancel its Indie Picnic event in the run up to last year's E3, the publisher's conference was nevertheless a highlight of the entire show. It was typically weird, loud and disjointed. Look, see:More of the same this year, please.Eurogamer. … [Read more...] about Devolver Digital reveals E3 2018 conference date: ‘Apologies in advance’
By Shabana Arif, Friday, 18 May 2018 18:58 GMT Devolver Digital is returning to E3 this year, and has kindly apologised in advance. The indie publisher made its E3 debut last year, and broadcast a heck of a pre-show that poked fun at the video game industry, consumer trends, and more importantly, featured an exploding head. It’s worth having yourself a little refresher if you’ve got 15 minutes to spare. If you liked that, you’ll be pleased to know that the Devolver will be at E3 again this year with another “big fancy press conference.” The publisher shared the news in a tweet, adding, “apologies in advance,” so fingers crossed they’re plotting something equally devilish for this year. Last year’s conference didn’t actually feature any new titles, so we’ll have to wait and see if that changes this time around. Devolver Digital E3 Press Conference 2018 Sunday, June 10 @ 8PM Pacific Apologies in advance. … [Read more...] about Devolver Digital announces “big fancy” E3 2018 press conference

Mark Turmell, a longtime game designer and programmer who's been making games since the '80s, will be at GDC 2018 in San Francisco this March to present a fascinating Classic Game Postmortem of NBA Jam! Released in 1993, Midway's NBA Jam is among the most influential arcade games of all time. Turmell served as lead designer and programmer on the original arcade game, and in his talk he plans to explain the vision behind the game, its role during the '90s arcade boom, and how the first ridiculously huge dunk changed the course of the game’s design.
