World Of Warcraft Is Getting A Social Contract In Patch 9.2.5
World of Warcraft's upcoming patch 9.2.5 for its current Shadowlands expansion will introduce a number of changes to Blizzard's MMO, among them a social contract that players will need to accept upon logging in for the first time once the update is live. The new contract is now fully visible on the game's public test realm (via Wowhead ), where players need to scroll down to the button of the contract and accept it or exit the game entirely. While the contract certainly outlines behavior that is against the game's terms of service, such as hate speech, harassment, in-game advertising, and other "disruptive" behaviors, it also encourages players to play as a team, make friends, and help answer questions new players may have. As the contract is currently on the PTR, it is subject to change. "It's a big world out there, with all sorts of people in it," the current contract states. "So please try to be respectful of each other, and if you ever feel like somebody is acting against the … [Read more...] about World Of Warcraft Is Getting A Social Contract In Patch 9.2.5
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End – the story behind the biggest game of the year
Everything was Uncharted. You’ll have seen the jokes, no doubt – the ones that pointed out how many games at E3 2012 seemed to be based on an external interpretation of the Naughty Dog design document. That show brought a host of linear games built on tightly scripted spectacle, sacrificing player agency for the whims of a stubborn author. The complaint was aimed at other developers, at an industry in thrall to the cookie cutter, but it stung Naughty Dog by extension as well. Many of those games have since turned out to be nothing like Uncharted. At December’s PlayStation Experience (PSX) event, filmed live in Vegas and streamed around the world, Naughty Dog suggested Uncharted 4 wasn’t, in the E3 2012 pejorative sense of the term, very Uncharted either. Over the course of a day inside the Santa Monica studio, we are shown the proof of it. Within half an hour, game director Bruce Straley has summed it up perfectly. “There’s no one golden path,” he tells us. “It’s not just as simple as … [Read more...] about Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End – the story behind the biggest game of the year
Alan Wake 2 Is Set To Release Next Year, Control Sequel Or Max Payne Remake By 2025
In its latest financial results report, Remedy Entertainment provided brief updates on several games under development at the independent studio. While CrossfireX continues to be supported by a "dedicated" team according to CEO Tero Virtala, Remedy is currently working on Alan Wake 2, remakes of the first two Max Payne games, Vanguard, and Control spin-offs. Out of all these games, Alan Wake 2 appears to be the closest, currently on track to release in 2023. "Alan Wake 2 is in the full production stage," Virtala said during the briefing . "A lot of work remains, but the game is starting to take a more complete form in many areas. As communicated earlier, Alan Wake 2 will be released in 2023." Codename Vanguard, a free-to-play cooperative game, is currently being co-developed in cooperation with Tencent and is making "good progress", while the Max Payne remakes and Control spin-offs are currently in proof-of-concept stages of development. These games are likely to release by 2025, … [Read more...] about Alan Wake 2 Is Set To Release Next Year, Control Sequel Or Max Payne Remake By 2025
Lost Ark Continues To Battle Bots, Millions Banned Already
Developer Smilegate has posted a new update on Lost Ark and the continuing fight against bots that plague the game. The studio acknowledged that while there's still plenty of work to be done, it has managed to successfully purge the free-to-play MMORPG of several million bots. Accounts that had participated in botting, hacking, or gold selling had been discovered and banned, and other improvements include a level-gated area chat to keep brand-new accounts from spamming gold-selling advertisements. Additionally, Smilegate has updated the game's automatic chat moderation to pick up on lines and phrases commonly used by gold sellers, changed the reward structures of quests and events to add a stronger deterrent against using bots to farm gold, and have blocked IPs from regions that have shown large amounts of bot activity. "While each of these tactics has shown some measure of success in removing bots from the game, our work is far from over," the studio wrote in a blog post . "We … [Read more...] about Lost Ark Continues To Battle Bots, Millions Banned Already
Lost Ark For Console? If Fans Make Enough Noise, Amazon And Smilegate Would Consider It
Smilegate's popular MMO Lost Ark is doing big numbers on PC, but could it ever come to console? Amazon Games boss Soomin Park said in new interview with VG247 that nothing is off the table. If fans make a clamor for Lost Ark on console, then Amazon Games and Smilegate would consider that feedback and factor it into their plans. That said, there are no guarantees. "If Lost Ark on consoles is something that fans really want, then I think it's something both parties would consider!" Park said. Amazon's other recent big PC MMO release, New World , also released exclusively on PC with no plans to launch on console. Lost Ark's FAQ page has an entry pertaining to possible other platforms. It says, "Will it only be on PC?" And the answer is, "Yes, Lost Ark is only available on PC." Smilegate's other recent big release, CrossfireX , is available on console, so the South Korean studio has a history of supporting platforms outside of PC alone. Lost Ark had about 450,000 peak … [Read more...] about Lost Ark For Console? If Fans Make Enough Noise, Amazon And Smilegate Would Consider It
Lost Ark Is Getting Two New Classes By May
Lost Ark is set to receive some major content updates over the next two months, including two new classes previously released in the Korean version of the game . The Glaivier will come in April while the Destroyer will be released in May, according to an Amazon blog post outlining Lost Ark's upcoming content roadmap. The new DPS classes are just the tip of the content iceberg, with Amazon planning on rolling out numerous other endgame activities and areas in the coming weeks. In April, players will be able to explore the new continent of South Vern. There will also be a number of quality-of-life updates coming this month, like improvements to Secret Maps and Book of Coordination settings, along with new events, log-in rewards, and a Feiton Powerpass … [Read more...] about Lost Ark Is Getting Two New Classes By May
Releasing New Lost Ark Endgame Content So Soon Was A “Mistake”
Lost Ark received its first major content update just last week , adding a new endgame activity, the Argos Abyss Raid, as well as new story content. A new blog post from Amazon and Smilegate RPG now says releasing that new content so soon after the game's launch was a mistake. "We made a mistake releasing the March game update too quickly after launch," the blog post states. "Data we analyzed alongside Smilegate RPG from their previous launches projected that a larger portion of players would have reached the level required to challenge Argos." Because the new Abyss Raid requires an item level of 1370, many players felt pressured to progress as fast as possible in order to play the new content. Since Lost Ark is a free-to-play game, players can outright purchase materials needed to upgrade gear and raise item levels with real-world money. That, combined with a shortage of Tier 3 upgrade materials that Amazon and Smilegate RPG says was the result of a rampant botting problem … [Read more...] about Releasing New Lost Ark Endgame Content So Soon Was A “Mistake”
Lost Ark Battle For The Throne Of Chaos Update Adds Battle Pass, New Class: Full Patch Notes
Lost Ark's Battle For the Throne of Chaos update arrives today, and it's the biggest update to Smilegate RPG and Amazon's free-to-play MMORPG yet, adding a new class, a battle pass, a new continent, numerous quality-of-life updates, and more. As detailed in the official patch notes , the new martial artist advanced class, the Glaivier, is the highlight. It's the first new class added to the Western version of Lost Ark since release. Wielding both a spear and a glaive, the Glaivier can swap between the two weapons with the press of a button, and each weapon has its own unique abilities and strengths. The glaive excels at clearing out huge groups of enemies, while the spear is ideal for poking down bosses. Of course, the Glaivier isn't the only new addition coming to Lost Ark as part of the Battle for the Throne of Chaos update. The new patch will also see the addition of the South Vern continent, where a demon army is amassing at the titular Throne of Chaos, which serves as a … [Read more...] about Lost Ark Battle For The Throne Of Chaos Update Adds Battle Pass, New Class: Full Patch Notes
