SNK Playmore today announced that The King of Fighters 2002 & 2003 has shipped for the PlayStation 2. The two-disc compilation features both The King of Fighters 2002 and The King of Fighters 2003, both previously unavailable on the PS2. A KOF double pack isn't a first for the PS2, because in 2003, Playmore released The King of Fighters 2000/2001. King of Fighters 2002 features 44 characters from the KOF series, and KOF 2003 features 35 characters from the venerable series. Both editions feature the three-on-three team system featured in previous games in the series, but KOF 2003 eschews the round-by-round team action in favor of one long round of combat with on-the-fly substitutions. The King of Fighters series has been bringing together characters from many of SNK's franchises of yore, including 2D classics Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, and Samurai Shodown. The KOF series' games first held court on the NeoGeo system, and some editions found their ways in to arcades. Xbox … [Read more...] about King of Fighters hits PS2s with one-two combo
In the years since its 1994 debut, The King of Fighters series has done much to define and refine 2D arcade fighting games. Sadly, the US arcade scene has been dying out, so most American fighting game fans haven't had the chance to sample some of the series' latest offerings. SNK Playmore's ongoing effort to bring its latest KOF titles to consoles has the potential to introduce the company's heavy-duty fighting series to a new generation of gamers while simultaneously appealing to those fans who have been pining for some arcade action. The King of Fighters 2002 and 2003 (title not finalized) is a compilation featuring direct ports of the eponymous arcade games for the NeoGeo arcade hardware. Only the first of these was playable at the UK's EGN conference, and only on the PS2. The PS2 port of KOF2002 appeared to be a near-perfect arcade conversion, however, and this will likely also be the case with 2003, when its code is in a playable state. When the compilation is released, during … [Read more...] about The King of Fighters 2002 & 2003 Impressions
SNK NeoGeo USA announced today a firmer release date for its upcoming King of Fighters combo pack on the PlayStation 2. Featuring ports of the NeoGeo arcade titles The King of Fighters 2002 and The King of Fighters 2003, the $39.99 bundle pack's release date has been changed from a vague "this year" to a more solid "November." Unfortunately for those who plan to pick up the Xbox version of the title, SNK confirmed to GameSpot that it will be released "sometime in 2005." The two titles are more different than the casual observer would think. 2002 is a compilation featuring 44 characters from the previous six entries in the series, while 2003 pared down the character roster but introduced 3D backgrounds and substantial gameplay changes. We just got our greedy mitts on builds of the PlayStation 2 versions of The King of Fighters 2002 and 2003, and so far, we have just one complaint: How come these games aren't hitting the streets sooner? Previously promised for a November release, the officially titled The King of Fighters 2002 & 2003 set is now slated for a PS2 release in January or February of 2005. This is probably for the best, since a couple of 2D fighting games running on the ancient-yet-timeless NeoGeo hardware aren't exactly going to draw a ton of attention amid this ridiculously action-packed holiday season. So think of it this way: The King of Fighters 2002 and 2003 are a couple of games that any avid fighting game fan should be looking forward to. True KOF purists may not favor these games to some of their predecessors, but the fact that these two offerings will be bundled together at a less-than-full price is great news. This year The King of Fighters is celebrating its 10th anniversary. It's been … [Read more...] about The King of Fighters 2002 & 2003 Preview

The developer's expansive narrative tradition offers a plethora of options for the upcoming movie set in the Warcraft universe.
