The Yakuza 2 remake has had a few extra bells and whistles added to it, as well as a visual overhaul, but how does it stack up against the rest of the series? Yakuza Kiwami 2 launches next week, and if you’re wondering how the reviews are looking, the answer is pretty gosh darn good, actually. The game was announced last year and launched in Japan in December. The Western release was confirmed back in March, and is a full remake of Yakuza 2, using Yakuza 6’s Dragon Engine. The title features re-recorded dialogue and cut-scenes, and included in the new content is the opportunity to play as Goro Majima, as well as a multitude of new mini-games. There’s a 10GB demo in the PS Store, and you can watch almost an hour of gameplay from E3 2018. You can peruse the scores for the game below. As usual, they’re out of 10 unless noted otherwise. It's almost unbelievable that modder Kaze Emanuar has spent 4,000 hours writing 100,000 lines of Assembly code to bring his vision of the perfect Mario game to life. Romhacks of this nature often reconfigure already existing levels to add more challenge, but Super Mario 64: Last Impact is so much more—it's an entirely new game, complete with its own story, inside of Super Mario 64.If you watch the trailer above, you'll see little that reminds you of the original Mario 64. Instead, Last Impact is herculean effort to design an entirely new game with its own 130 stars to collect, 25 new levels, bosses, and power ups. There's Mario Sunshine's F.L.U.D.D. water cannon, but Kaze also added his own original ideas too. The Cloud Flower let's Mario make cloud platforms to walk on to help traverse big gaps, while the Bee Mushroom gives him wings. The level design looks equally impressive, with areas themed after circuit boards, casinos, and Rainbow Road. Hell, you even go to the moon.If you … [Read more...] about This Mario 64 romhack took over 2 years to make, and turns it into an entirely new game

Tim Schafer, the designer of all-time PC Gamer favourites like Grim Fandango, Full Throttle and Day of the Tentacle received the BAFTA Fellowship last week in recognition of his creative contribution to games. Along with much of the staff at Double Fine, Schafer is currently working on a sequel to cult classic Psychonauts 2, which was successfully crowdfunded in January 2016. We never seem to pass up an opportunity to talk to Schafer, and at EGX Rezzed last Friday I sat down with him to ask how Psychonauts 2 is coming along and whether he'd be interested in remastering more of Lucasarts' treasure trove of adventure games—even if they weren't games he worked on. How does receiving the BAFTA Fellowship make you feel?Besides old? It's really nice. It's coming from an organisation that values creativity and tries to encourage that in a generation of young talent, and that's something I feel like we've always tried to do as a company, so it feels very relevant and important … [Read more...] about Tim Schafer talks Psychonauts 2 and more remasters of Lucasarts adventure games
