Overlord, the next movie from JJ Abrams, has finally gotten its first trailer. But far from being an obvious tie-in to the Cloverfield universe (as many suspected it would be), the film looks more like JJ had been playing some Call of Duty: WW2 Zombies mode and thought to himself, "What if this, but a movie?"Okay okay, that's not totally fair; Nazi zombies have been A Thing since long before the most recent CoD. Wolfenstein has featured undead members of the Third Reich since the '90s, and they've popped up in other forms of pop culture throughout the years. Still, there's just something about the color palette and general vibe of this trailer (maybe it's the AC/DC blaring "Hell's Bells"?) that reminds me most of Sledgehammer Games' take on the popular mode.Speaking of Call of Duty movies, don't forget that's still a thing that's happening. Back in February, Stefano Sollima, director of Sicario: Day of the Soldado, was said to be in negotiations to direct the first live-action Call of … [Read more...] about JJ Abrams’ Overlord looks like Hollywood turned Call of Duty’s Zombies mode into a WW2 movie
Imagine the Cleganebowl in Game of Thrones season 8 being a triple threat. Fans excited to see the Hound and the Mountain clashing could’ve got Hodor joining in too. Well, that is, if actor Kristian Nairn’s barmy theory rang true. Unfortunately, it didn’t – but his reasoning behind it actually holds up surprisingly well. Maybe there’s another plot twist around the corner?Speaking to our sister publication SFX magazine, Nairn reveals that not only did he try and delve into Hodor’s backstory early on by bribing creator George R.R. Martin with alcohol (“I bought him whiskies, vodkas, everything… never worked. He has a good poker face”) he also had a lightbulb moment of his own, one where he might be related to a few other big boys on Game of Thrones.“A theory I had, being a big guy,” Nairn explains, “Maybe he was another one of the Clegane brothers, and something happened to him as a child, like it did with the Hound, … [Read more...] about Game of Thrones’ Kristian Nairn reveals he thought Hodor was the third Clegane brother
Destiny 2's been having a bit of a rough go lately. But hey, maybe a special event with cool gear that'll get players ready for the upcoming Forsaken expansion is just what it needs to bring some Guardians back from the realm of "Playing Other Games". Enter the Solstice of Heroes, the Destiny 2 summer event that kicks off July 31 and runs until August 28.A bit more lore-heavy than other seasonal offerings, the Solstice of Heroes ties directly back to the attack on The Tower that kicked off the opening of Destiny 2. Once the event begins, speak with Ikora Rey. She'll direct you to the center of The Tower, where you'll find a statue dedicated to the Guardians who fell the day that Dominus Ghaul attacked. This Statue of Heroes will track your Moments of Triumph progress, and grant you the Solstice of Heroes armor. What's particularly nice about the Solstice of Heroes armor is that it's actually functional, not just ornamental. The first set you'll be granted is the 'Scorched' set, which … [Read more...] about The Destiny 2 Solstice of Heroes event has new cosmetics, missions, and sweet new armor
San Diego Comic Con always brings the goods. Case in point: Marvel has unveiled an utterly incredible Avengers: Infinity War poster that has to be seen to be believed. Seriously. It’ll be a mainstay of many an MCU fans’ wall for years to come, I’m sure of it.Let’s take a look at it, shall we? You’d best start preparing yourself, it’s a beaut. With Thanos looming large in the background, it’s the best of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes that take centre stage this time. Thor is all revved up and in God of Thunder mode; Cap is all fired up and ready to go and, in the middle of it all is the guy who kicked everything off: Iron Man. Created by artist Matt Taylor, this really does feel like not only the endgame of the MCU, but the endgame of all MCU posters. He’s knocked it out of the park. I’m not normally one to gush about posters, but I’m already mentally framing it in my mind as we speak. There’s a sepia-tinted version … [Read more...] about Feast your eyes on this incredible Avengers: Infinity War Comic Con poster (and start saving those pennies)
Even if you weren’t all that interested in the World Cup final, there’s a good-to-great chance you still tuned in for the new Doctor Who teaser. What we got was… well, not a whole lot actually. In fact, we probably got more from the Thirteenth Doctor’s debut last year. But it’s definitely worth watching again. Why? Because there’s a big deep cut of an Easter egg that not only conjures up memories of one of the most beloved Time Lords ever, but maybe, just maybe, hints at a Day of the Doctor-esque crossover.A big hearty hat-tip to ComicBook.com for this one, as the trailer – which you can see above - has one obscure nod to the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith.Amazon Prime Day deals: see all the best offers right now! While we were treated to a whistlestop tour of new companions Graham, Ryan, and Yasmin, it was what was going on around Graham (Bradley Walsh) that was the most interesting of all.The new companion is minding his own business, reading a … [Read more...] about Did you spot the hidden reference to a previous Time Lord in the new Doctor Who teaser?
