Sony has quite a few must-play exclusives coming to the PS4 in the next few years, but The Last of Us 2 is likely at the top of that exciting list for most players. The game’s first teasers sparked debate, controversy, and conspiracy theories; and Naughty Dog is sure to deliver another heart-wrenching, intimate story set at the end of the world. Speaking of the end of the world, The Last of Us 2’s director, Neil Druckmann, recently discussed some inspiration for the sequel on a panel at DICE Summit 2018. Apparently the award-winning graphic novel turned Netflix original series, The End of the F***ing World has been in heavy rotation as the team works on the new game. Druckmann explained that the series, which is about two teens on the run from their families, the law, and perhaps something even more sinister; has a style of dialogue that has really influenced work on The Last of Us 2. “There’s a show on Netflix called The End of the F***ing World, which is so … [Read more...] about The Last of Us 2 Director Discusses Inspirations for Sequel
Very little has been revealed about the upcoming film adaptation of popular PlayStation exclusive The Last of Us since the project was first announced. However, a recent statement made by Naughty Dog Creative Director Neil Druckmann seems to suggest that any future film adaptation of the title will not be a direct retelling of the game. Presenting a conversation on crafting narratives for video games, film, and television with filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg at the 2018 D.I.C.E. Summit yesterday, Druckmann took the opportunity to share his thoughts about the upcoming film adaptations of the Uncharted series and The Last of Us. Speaking on the Uncharted adaptation, Druckmann claims he is happy with director Shawn Levy’s approach to the film, saying, “We’ve had some conversations with Shawn Levy, and he’s really passionate, gets it, and I think he understands where we’re at.” The upcoming Uncharted film will supposedly focus on the … [Read more...] about The Last of Us Movie Will Not Be A Direct Adaptation Of The Game
During a panel hosted today at the D.I.C.E. Summit in Las Vegas, The Last of Us Part II Creative Director Neil Druckmann explained that the studio is very open about the possibilities for its next game. Druckmann mentioned that some of his favorite games are in third-person perspective, as he somehow can identify better with characters when they’re on a screen, but narrative games can still be done in first person and it has been done extremely well with certain games. When work on The Last of Us started, the team was brainstorming whether it should be first-person or third-person. They also debated on whether it would be multiplayer or single-player. When all the pieces started falling in pieces, they decided that it would be third-person, but with a closer camera to make it more intimate. This provides a bit more of a “first-person feel,” but still allows the player to see the character on the screen. That being said they have made games in other … [Read more...] about The Last of Us Part II Director: Next Naughty Dog Game “Might Not Be Third-Person”
Naughty Dog has created some of the most critically-acclaimed and best-selling third-person games of all time, including titles like Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted, and The Last of Us. Considering the success the studio has found with third-person games, one might be surprised to learn that its next game, after The Last of Us: Part 2, could very well be first-person. This is according to Neil Druckmann, who is currently serving as creative director for The Last of Us: Part 2. Druckmann spoke on the matter during a panel at the DICE Summit 2018, where he revealed that before the studio settled on a third-person view for the original Last of Us, there were talks of the game being first-person. Of course, that didn’t come to pass, but that doesn’t mean Naughty Dog has abandoned the idea of making a first-person game entirely. “We’re totally open. The future, the next game that we do might not be third-person.” … [Read more...] about Will Naughty Dog’s Next Game Be First-Person?
Without a doubt, PlayStation fans have plenty of exciting PS4 exclusive games to look forward to in 2018, but the fan-favorite titles The Last of Us: Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima have yet to be given official release dates for the platform. Be that as it is, should a recent post on the official PlayStation Sweden Facebook page be accurate, then both of the aforementioned games could wind up launching this year. As seen below in the screenshot of a post from the official PlayStation Sweden Facebook page from earlier in the week, a translation of a video’s description states that The Last of Us: Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima will make this an “incredible PlayStation year.” Naturally, this is far from confirmation that either of the titles will have launches in 2018, as regional social media accounts aren’t exempt from getting information wrong. Nevertheless, the fact that the games are mentioned alongside other projects with confirmed release dates for this year … [Read more...] about The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima to Release This Year?
Last of Us 2 was announced a few years back but it wasn’t until last year that proper reveals regarding the game were made. Just yesterday Neil Druckmann, the director and writer of the game, made a Tweet which hints that there might possibly be companions in The Last of Us 2. One of the companions could possibly be a Dog. Neil Druckmann uploaded a picture of himself with a dog wearing a motion capture suit and with the hashtag “Year of the Dog”. On top of that, he was himself wearing a shirt with Last of Us written on it so it is pretty obvious in which direction this Tweet is going. #YearOfTheDog pic.twitter.com/5UpWwkDRMB — Neil Druckmann (@Neil_Druckmann) February 17, 2018 What does this mean for the game Last Of Us 2? Well for starters companions in the game means that we will have someone to rely on when the shit hits the fan. If there is a dog then we could possibly let the dog attack our enemies, or maybe use the dog to pick up weapons, possibly … [Read more...] about The Last Of Us 2 to Have Companions in the Game?
The Last of Us is one of the best games of the last generation of consoles and was directed by Bruce Straley, who left as the development of Uncharted 4 began and now the developer has explained why he left Naughty Dog and why he isn’t working on the Last Of Us 2. Speaking with Kotaku, The Last of Us director explained that the reason why he left Naughty Dog was Uncharted 4. According to Straley, he left the studio because of the stress and pressure that Uncharted 4’s development brought. He added that he felt that the development of Uncharted 4 was more of an obligation rather than being a passion project. “Uncharted 4 showed up and it was like, I guess there’s a difference between doing something for yourself which feels passionate and I had my own theories that I was trying to expand upon between Uncharted 1, 2, and The Last of Us and then Uncharted 4 became more like, ‘How do I do this for the team and for the company?” The Last Of Us 2 is … [Read more...] about The Last Of Us Director Reveals His Reason To Exit Naughty Dog Was Uncharted 4’s Development
While working on video games sounds like a dream to many, it’s worth remembering that it is also a highly stressful job. This is the core message delivered by former Naughty Dog director Bruce Straley who worked on big titles such as The Last of Us and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. During a Final Games podcast, Straley discussed recognition in the field, personal reflections, and the development of a game. Initially, Straley made clear that his final day at Naughty Dog was the “most validating experience” in his career because the whole team was there. However, the former Last of Us director also stated, “it’s crazy that you have to leave somewhere to get the acknowledgment.” Although Straley didn’t seem to mention why he chose to leave, he had also worked at Naughty Dog for 18 years – an impressive feat that may or may not have affected his decision. During the interview, Straley also reflected on The Last of US, stating … [Read more...] about The Last of Us Director Talks Leaving Naughty Dog
Were you waiting for The Last of Us Part 2 official release to see that scene where Ellie was playing guitar again? Did you think that bringing Joel back would be as obvious as putting him in the first reveal trailer? Apparently, Naughty Dog was teasing us with this trailer as creative director has confirmed that it’s not a cinematic from The Last of Us Part 2 but merely a scene with familiar faces as an announcement. During an AIAS Game Maker’s Notebook where Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog talked with Insomniac Games’ Ted Price, The Last of Us Part 2 creative director revealed that the first trailer of the game we saw is not even in the game. As it seems, the developers didn’t want to spoil the existence of new characters and the brutality of the game so they decided that giving fans a familiar trailer would be the best way to announce it. As he stated: “The first trailer we showed kind of exists purely as an announcement. It’s not a … [Read more...] about The Scene Where Ellie Plays The Guitar Is Not In The Last Of Us Part 2, Says Creative Director
The Last of Us 2's debut trailer didn't feature in-game footage and was created exclusively as a concept for the finished release, Naughty Dog's creative director has said. Neil Druckmann appeared on the AIAS Game Maker's podcast in order to discuss The Last of Us 2, with him revealing some information regarding its debut trailer and the impact its second Paris Games Week trailer had on production. The Last of Us 2's reveal trailer, which debuted at PlayStation Experience 2016, was our reintroduction to an older Ellie and a silhouetted Joel. Describing the lead-up to the game's reveal, Druckmann stated that this trailer was a concept used to announce the game and that Naughty Dog actually had to push back The Last of Us 2's planned E3 2017 reveal to buy them more time. "Initially — I might be revealing too much here — we were going to show something at E3 that just passed, and then we realized that ... instead of putting the team through a grind this … [Read more...] about The Last of Us 2 Trailer Didn’t Feature In-Game Footage
