Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Retribution will release on PlayStation 4 on September 12, 2017. The DLC, which serves as the fourth map pack for Infinite Warfare, will arrive on PC and Xbox One at a later date that remains unspecified. Retribution includes four new multiplayer maps, as well as the final zombies co-op experience, titled The Beast from Beyond. That adventure takes place in an abandoned military base located on a distant ice planet, a reminder of just how far the Call of Duty series has removed itself from the early World War 2 experiences (though the series will go back to that well later this year with Call of Duty: WWII). “Our team has had so much fun this year creating content for the Infinite Warfare community,” said Dave Stohl, Studio Head of Infinity Ward. “So with Retribution, it’s the culmination of our thrilling zombies storyline, where players will head to a new setting with tons of surprises, and find out what evil force has been … [Read more...] about COD: Infinite Warfare Retribution DLC Releases First on PS4

It's only a tiny slice of the final product of course - a taster of three years' hard graft from one of the most respected developers in the business - but the arrival of the Call of Duty: World War 2 beta gives us our first look at how Sledgehammer Games has evolved one of the most significant console engines of this generation, and how its work scales between PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro. The solid technical foundation of 2014's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has served several developers well over the last three years. After the disappointment of Ghosts, Sledgehammer's extensive rewrite of the COD engine truly leveraged the capabilities of current-gen systems. Its revision pushed the series to a new, more filmic post effects pipeline, materials-based lighting, and vastly improved facial animations. Performance was also exceptional, running smoothly across all platforms and scaling beautifully across PC hardware configurations. Since then, evolved branches of that COD engine have … [Read more...] about Can Call of Duty: World War 2 improve on one of gaming’s fastest engines?
Virtual Reality is uncharted but intriguing territory for many established creators and even for those that have never created content before. One particular developer burned out in the gaming industry after contributing to seven titles in one of the most well-known franchises in gaming, but has found himself embedded in VR in his new ventures. Chance Glasco is a cofounder of Infinity Ward, which created the Call of Duty franchise, and he chatted with Forbes about what he says is “one of those things that people don't know that they want”: VR meetings. Glasco founded Doghead Simulations, a company focused on VR solutions for remote teams, after reconnecting with a college friend that was also an HTC Vive prototyper. The Doghead team of 17 itself is spread across three continents, so they’re in prime position to practice what they preach as they bring their software to other remote teams and entities. "We are trying to bring you something totally … [Read more...] about Infinity Ward Founder Wants You To Have Meetings In VR

Devolver is perhaps best known for publishing edgy indie video games such as Hotline Miami, Not A Hero and Strafe. But it's also dabbled in filmmaking - and it's next project is a pretty surprising one. Devolver Digital Films has announced a Call of Duty documentary called, wait for it, CODumentary. It's due out 19th September 2017 on VOD platforms worldwide and on the Steam Store. The 93-minute film, created in the UK by Jonathan Beales, explores how Call of Duty became one of the biggest entertainment franchises ever. Here's the official blurb: "The documentary details how Call of Duty, created in 2003 by Infinity Ward, faced strong competition in its early days from a host of similar high quality WW2 games yet managed to rise to the top and sustain its position with a growing global fan base." And here's the official trailer (in it a developer reveals Tour of Duty was the name of the game before the team came up with Call of Duty). CODumentary is an unofficial documentary, which … [Read more...] about Devolver made a Call of Duty documentary called CODumentary
