Let’s get one thing out of the way. Disney Channel’s original Kim Possible movie is just that: a Disney Channel Original Movie. We can’t compare it to theatrical live-action versions of animated Disney films; it’s made for TV, and based on a TV show. Adjust your expectations about live-action Kim Possible accordingly. That being said, this version of Kim Possible, a classic Disney cartoon from the mid-2000s, keeps the true spirit of the DCOMs many of us grew up with — Wendy Wu Homecoming Warrior, Halloweentown, and Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century among them. Kim Possible is campy and hammers in its message with the subtlety of a sledgehammer, but that’s not a critique. It just means that Kim Possible is, like most in the DCOM canon, a fun movie, and little else. [Ed. note: This article contains slight spoilers for Disney Channel’s Kim Possible.] Kim Possible bears a weighty legacy. The animated series ran from 2002 to 2007 and was a staple … [Read more...] about Kim Possible deserves a place among DCOM classics

The end of The Dragon Prince season 2 forces everyone to grow up for season 3
While season one of The Dragon Prince ended on a high note for the heroes, the second season scatters them. The victories this time are smaller, and the danger, however, is greater. The main cast of characters are all young adults and teenagers, but they’ve been force to reckon with some bitter realities by the end of this season. This season in particular focused on the emotional growth of the characters, a goal for head writers Justin Richmond and Aaron Ehasz. As Callum, Ezran, Rayla, Claudia, and Soren struggle to complete their journeys, not only will there be ramifications for them going into the next season, but also for the greater world. [Ed. Note: This article contains spoilers for season 2 of The Dragon Prince] In the last two episodes, Callum struggles with the after effects of using dark magic for the first time and falls unconscious. While asleep, he is plagued with nightmares, but eventually talks to a dream-version (or ghost?) of his dead mother and discovers … [Read more...] about The end of The Dragon Prince season 2 forces everyone to grow up for season 3

The Dragon Prince creators unravel the mythology of season 2’s human kingdoms
The Dragon Prince’s first season was all about setting up the core conflict between humans and the magical kingdoms of Xadia. Humans were the ones who invented dark magic, humans were the ones who killed the dragon king, and now the human kingdoms and Xadia are a powder keg ready to go off at any time. There are a few standout moments that reflect how humans can be fundamentally decent, like General Amaya, but it seems as though the human kingdoms are far more corrupt. Even King Harrow, who seems like a very decent dude, spends his screentime in season one reflecting on the mistakes he’s made and the person he wanted to be. In The Dragon Prince season 2, the show shines much more of a spotlight on the five human kingdoms, and we learn a lot more about their motivations. It adds new dimensions to the conflict of the show, and makes the world feel much deeper as a result.
