Pokémon developer Game Freak's 2D puzzle platformer Giga Wrecker Alt. is heading to Switch, Xbox One, and PS4 "later this year", publisher Rising Star Games has announced.Giga Wrecker, which initially launched on PC in 2017, follows the adventures of Reika, an ARCHE-imbued girl (short for ARms Creating and Handling Effect, if you were wondering) with the power to turn debris into weapons and tools.Gathered detritus can, for instance, be transformed into a giant blade used to topple bits of the environment, into giant platform-like blocks for reaching higher areas, into navigable spikes that can be jammed into walls, and more. By combining these skills, players can pummel evil robot armies and explore Giga Wrecker's labyrinthine, strikingly designed world. Game Freak's action adventure (which, I'll be honest, completely passed me by on its original release) seems to have been well-received on PC - it's amassed a Very Positive rating over on Steam, for instance - and the … [Read more...] about Game Freak’s debris-manipulating platformer Giga Wrecker is heading to consoles
The Dark Zone was easily the most memorable thing about Tom Clancy's The Division when it launched in 2016. Never knowing whether another squad of agents was going to leave you to enjoy your hard-earned PvE loot or kill you and take it for themselves was a constant source of tension - something no multiplayer game has quite managed to recreate since. So it's no surprise that Ubisoft Massive is doubling down on the Dark Zone for The Division 2 - or perhaps that should be tripling down, because the game's recreation of Washington D.C comes complete with a trio of Dark Zones in which to betray your fellow agents. These are situated to the East, West and South of the game's map, with each boasting its own layout and associated tactical options. It's a big change to be sure, but don't take that to mean The Division 2 is tearing up an established take on PvP and starting from scratch. As I discovered during the few hours I spent with the game in Ubisoft Massive's offices in Malmo, The … [Read more...] about The Division 2 is ringing in some big changes for The Dark Zone
Part of the Detective Pikachu movie's appeal is, I think, its slightly grotesque interpretation of what Pokémon would look like in the real world. When you combine this with the gaudiness of the Pokémon Trading Cards, you get a real treat. To build (yet more) hype for the upcoming Detective Pikachu film, The Pokémon Company has revealed some of the tie-in merch for the movie. Along with the usual toys (and a rather fabulous Detective Pikachu hat), three sets of Pokémon Trading Cards have been unveiled. Take a look at the first images here: Each "case file" has a separate theme - either Detective Pikachu, Charizard or Greninja - which features a Detective Pikachu-inspired card based on the named Pokémon, along with other booster pack goodies. Apparently this is only the start of the collection, as 26 Detective Pikachu-themed cards are planned in total. Keep your eyes peeled for Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Jigglypuff - who are also due to be introduced to the card … [Read more...] about The Detective Pikachu movie’s Pokémon Trading Cards are wonderfully hideous

Nearly a decade ago, video games publisher THQ thought up a clever PR stunt for its latest Wii game. The mediocre mini-game compilation was aimed at the family market, so THQ had a unique golden Nintendo Wii console made for the most famous family in the country - the royal family - then sent the console off addressed to the Queen herself. Ex-Eurogamer video producer Chris Bratt (who?) picks up the story in the video below, the latest in his Humans sorry People Make Games series. Will Chris be able to track down the Queen's golden Wii for himself after all this time? Will you get a lovely shot of him packing away his underpants as he goes off searching? Yes and yes - but as ever, the story behind it all is well worth a watch. … [Read more...] about Where in the world is the Queen’s golden Wii?
