While this year’s Call of Duty is greatly expected to be a new Modern Warfare series entry, it also appears the familiar will be mixed with the new. According to a new report, Modern Warfare 4 may feature a free-to-play component, which would mark a strong departure for the series and a potential shift for the Call of Duty series moving forward. This weekend, Kotaku posted a lengthy report that details the shift of development duties on Call of Duty 2020 from Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software to Treyarch. Apparently, Activision was not happy with the work of the two studios, who are next in line to release a Call of Duty game after 2019, and brought next year’s project to tried-and-true Treyarch. It also sounds as though Call of Duty 2020 will be Black Ops 5 and employ a unique approach, like a free-to-play business model for specific (or potential all) of its components. But while players will have to wait until next year to see if the report is true, there are … [Read more...] about Modern Warfare 4 May Feature Free-to-Play Component
JoyMasher’s Danilo Dias offers this super-timely de-make (or a concept of one, anyway): John Wick, if the 2014 action flick was an NES adaptation about 25 years younger. If nothing else, it reminds me of what “cover shooter” really was in the years before that became a subgenre. John rushes ever rightward and attacks ever upward, ultimately downing Viggo’s chopper and receiving his canine reward at the end of stage 5-2. Awesome, now speedrun it! Blindfolded! Clever commenters will note that The Continental’s custom guest-services system runs on a Commodore 64, so retro hardware is also a fitting medium for the Boogeyman. John Wick has a bona fide real video game coming later this year, called John Wick Hex, for unspecified console and PC platforms. And you may have heard about the current cross promotion within Fortnite, which has made things super weird thanks to the Reaper skin that has been in the game for more than year. … [Read more...] about John Wick game for NES doesn’t exist, doesn’t let that stop it
Game of Thrones has always been the story of the Stark children. From the lessons their father and mother imparted in the early seasons to the travails they’ve had on their own, we’ve seen the Stark children separate and come back together. We’ve followed Arya, Sansa, Jon Snow, and Bran as they went from children on the frozen edge of the world to some of Westeros’ most important people. But despite a central role in the series, the future of House Stark and who would continue it is still in question heading into the show’s final episode. Originally the person most likely to carry on the family line, Jon’s Targaryen family reveal already puts a damper on the idea that he would have Stark children. Making that even more complicated his former paramour and recently discovered aunt, Daenerys, just committed genocide in King’s Landing, which is also sure to put her on the outs with him as well making the idea of them having children pretty … [Read more...] about What the GoT books tell us about Bran and the end of House Stark
For over a decade now, Activision has established a clear pattern of alternating studios when it comes to its Call of Duty games. It assigns different main studios to work on Call of Duty so that the games have a three-year development cycle and a new game can come out every fall. Since Black Ops 4 released in 2018 and 2019’s Call of Duty is from Infinity Ward, Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games were co-developing Call of Duty 2020. However, those plans have changed, with Treyarch taking over development to turn Call of Duty 2020 into Call of Duty: Black Ops 5. This news comes from Kotaku, citing three separate anonymous sources. According to Kotaku’s sources, the original Call of Duty 2020 would have a single-player campaign set during the Cold War, presumably Vietnam. Treyarch will retain this setting and transform the work already done on the campaign for Call of Duty: Black Ops 5. Even though Treyarch is taking creative control … [Read more...] about Call of Duty 2020 Will Be Black Ops 5, Set During Cold War
[Sorry if this question wasn't specific or not legitimate. I've only been here a while.] For a long time I always wanted to make a video game. However making video games are hard. You have to have the gameplay mechanics be good. However I only got into making video games very recently. I don't know where to start. Or even how to do it. I've always had trouble with software like Blender, Game Maker, Unity, etc. No matter what Game Development Conference I watch or Extra Credits YouTube channel episode I watch, I still can't finish making a game. Sorry if it sounds like I'm whining. This problem has been going on for a while and I'm in a creative rut (if that's the right term) right now. … [Read more...] about How do I make a game even though I suck at software?
